Why does England have such a shit patron saint when there are so many actual English saints to choose from.
So, petition to change to patron saint of England to an actual English person. We have plenty to choose from:
- St Æthelstan - a former bishop of Hereford
- St Margaret Clitherow - "the pearl of York", patron saint of businesswomen.
- St Isabella Gilmore - oversaw the revival of the Deaconess Order, where the women were to be “a curiously effective combination of nurse, social worker and amateur policeman”.
- St James Hannington - Was kinda, sorta anti-slavery (if they were Christians).
- St Laurence Humphreys - while ill and delirious called Queen Elizabeth a harlot and a heretic and was executed for it.
