How does it feel to be
    One of the beautiful people?
How often have you been there?
    Often enough to know
What did you see when you were there?
    Nothing that doesn't show
    Baby, You’re A Rich Man

  5. The Beatles - I Am The Walrus
"I Am the Walrus" is a 1967 song featured in the Beatles' 1967 television film, as a track on the associated double EP Magical Mystery Tour and its American counterpart LP, and was the b-side to the number 1 hit single "Hello, Goodbye."

  7. Magical Mystery Tour

Released on November 27, 1967. Transcendental meditiation and Ken Kesey and the boys were on their way to laying down some of the most rambling but truly entertaining head trips to date. Goo goo g'joob. 10. "Blue Jay Way" is a song by the English #rock band #theBeatles. Written by #GeorgeHarrison, it was released in 1967 on the group's #MagicalMysteryTour EP and album. The song was named after a street in the #HollywoodHills of Los Angeles where Harrison stayed in August 1967, shortly before visiting the #HaightAshbury district of San Francisco.

  11. Couldn't resist one last Charismatic Megastructure on the homeward leg of our #MagicalMysteryTour. In this case the infrastructure in question is Polders, and Kinderdijk as a representative of all polders in the Netherlands and the relatively modern methodology of creating them (as opposed to the pre windmill methods we explored in Friesland). An excellent end to the trip.

Two days. 920km. Excellent views, excellent structures, excellent company.

Now I need a lay down.

  12. And this was the perfect end to the #MagicalMysteryTour

Goodnight, Fedi, and a huge thanks to my guide @quixoticgeek

  13. @MagicLike so, I went to Zurich via Thailand, Libya and Denmark amongst other places. #MagicalMysteryTour

What did you get up to?

  14. And then the Charismatic Megastructure this #MagicalMysteryTour trip has been leading to. From the concrete floom at the Waterloopbos, via Thailand, Libya, Denmark, Iceage Europe, Friesland, Zurich, the Afsluidijk, & the MaaslantKering.

Considered by many to be one of the seven engineering wonders of the world, it was built in response to The Storm of 1953, when the Dutch turned round and said "Never again".

Oh, and the Dutch use it for their national headwind cycling championship. Of course.

  15. After the bridge, the next unplanned Charismatic megastructure of the #MagicalMysteryTour was the Phoenix Caissons. Originally built for the allied invasion of Normandy, they were used in 1953 to plug a hole in the dyke after The Storm. They are now a museum about The Storm.

(Well worth a visit, but not easy to access except by car).

  16. Next on the Charismatic Megastructures #MagicalMysteryTour was not intended, but necessary to drop one of our party at the station. This is the Zeeland Bridge.

    It's a bridge.

    In Zeeland.

It's also very long. Heading south we had to stop when the opening section opened to permit boat traffic. The return trip was clear.

  17. Charismatic megastructure number 2. Halaide X. When built it was the largest wind turbine on the planet. It has since been surpassed by multiple other turbines.

    #MagicalMysteryTour

  18. First stop on the tour of charismatic megastructures is the MaaslantKering. Built to protect Rotterdam from the north sea. It's huge!

    #MagicalMysteryTour

  19. "the theme for today is charismatic megastructures" #MagicalMysteryTour

  20. The #MagicalMysteryTour of the Netherlands has taken us to Bangkok, Libya, Denmark, and neolithic Europe, obviously the next place to go is of course Zurich...

In Zurich, we climbed to the highest peak, and admired the view.

Then it was time to head home across the Afsluidijk.

    Day 1 complete. Tomorrow. South.

  21. "Delivered in kit form from Scandinavia using glacially slow transport, and assembled by hand without instructions by the Dutch"

    #MagicalMysteryTour

  22. Next stop on the #MagicalMysteryTour of the Netherlands rocks...

  23. Thailand, and Libya behind us, the next stop on the #MagicalMysteryTour of the Netherlands was Denmark.

Danish visit complete, we've beat a path to the nearby cafe for some lunch.

  24. After a brief stop at Bangkok, our #MagicalMysteryTour of the Netherlands continues on to Marsa-el-Bregha in Libia...

    Obviously.

  25. First proper stop on the #MagicalMysteryTour of the Netherlands... Bangkok...
    Cos obviously...

  26. A nighty night ear worm from those guys.
