Wir haben mit einem tiny Spiel gerechnet, es war dann doch eher epic: kann man #TinyEpicQuest tatsächlich in den angegebenen 60 Minuten spielen? Zu viert haben wir am Wochenende deutlich über zwei Stunden gebraucht. War für alle die Erstpartie, aber wir waren uns einig dass die eine Stunde illusorisch ist.
Drei von uns hatten mal eine Einsteigerrunde #MageKnight gespielt, das hat kaum länger gedauert.
Spaß hatten wir trotzdem. 👍

@ForceDyad For me, ease-of-use depends heavily on the game adaptation. Some people have scripted some rockin' simulators (the 'heavily scripted' #MageKnight is superb when I am not able to get the box out)...For practical reasons I only use it for digital versions of well-played games in my collection (plus board game developers don't see any revenue-love from simulators). In short, I think TTS is a win but ymmv, as ever...

It was an epic struggle but I finished my first Solo Conquest in Mage Knight Ultimate! I'd like to say I won and conquered both cities but it turns out I got caught out by some technicalities I missed :(. It was a bit disappointing, I was so happy when I thought I'd cracked it and defeated the enemies in the second city on the last turn but I discovered afterwards that I couldn't have used the Disintegrate spell I used when I did, and even if i could the enemy I used it on would have been immune to it because of its Fire Resistance (it apparently counts as a "red card" even though it's a spell).

But still... I'll claim it as a moral victory :). At the start of the third Day I thought I had no chance of even taking one city but I managed to do that by the end of the day and at least got to a position where I could have a go at the second city on the last turn of the third Night. And there were plenty of times during the game where I thought I could do something, realised i couldn't, but then managed to figure out a convoluted alternative way to do it that did work, so it was quite the rollercoaster ride!

It's a real brainburner and quite engaging too. It's not very complicated to play once you get the hang of it, but the rulebook is fiddly and there are a lot of little technicalities and interactions that can trip you up (as they did here). But it's definitely fun to play solo - not sure how well it works as a 2p co-op but I'd like to have a go at that at least. #MageKnight #boardgames

I just finished the First Reconnaissance scenario in Mage Knight - phew! I found the Capital at the end of the second day - it was a bit of a slog towards the end when I was getting some unhelpful card draws, on top of being whomped by a Minotaur that an Orc Summoner called up to defend himself for four wounds (I managed to defeat the orc, and fortunately I managed to heal the wounds pretty quickly but they did get in the way for a bit). I didn't do much combat since this was mostly a tutorial scenario but I did defeat three orc raiders at least.

Mage Knight has a reputation for being difficult to learn, but I don't think rules were that hard to grasp - I think the bigger problem was that the layout and presentation of the rules leaves a lot to be desired. I was having to flick through the rulebook and the walkthrough multiple times trying to find stuff, and it's not laid out in a very logical manner (the dense, tiny text doesn't help readability either).

I watched Totally Tabled's solo playthrough/tutorial video beforehand and that was a big help - I would definitely recommend watching that to get an idea of how the game works if the rulebook is too intimidating to start with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3dAVmQ0jLs

MK is definitely an interesting game - it's very much a puzzle as you're trying to figure out how best to use the cards you've been dealt. I'm not really sure how well it'd work as a multiplayer game but it works as solo pretty well (though it takes up a vast amount of table space!). I'll have to do a proper 'Solo Conquest' scenario too at least to get an idea of what the full game is like - but the tutorial scenario was pretty good. #boardgames #mageknight

I caved in and finally got Mage Knight Ultimate. Should I be afraid? I did see a *200 page* Q&A pdf file online for this which seems a bit ridiculous! The rulebook can't be THAT bad, can it?! #boardgames #mageknight

Sigh. Just played and won my first Solo Conquest game of Mage Knight, only to discover my clutch play of using the Sword of Justice with just-earned wound cards wasn't legal. This is what I get from internalizing that wounds count as "cards" thanks to the Planning tactic.

Oh well. I'll make sure not to repeat that error next time.

I've owned this far too long without playing it. I played a friend's copy years ago, and I've watched a bunch of playthrough videos online recently, but I'm still going through the tutorial to build up muscle memory.
