An idea of who the MC is. This is as much for me as for the reader.

For Veronica I committed the unforgivable sin of having her examine herself in a mirror, just the way new writers are always advised not to do, but I knew exactly what I was doing.

What I didn't do was describe her features, hair colour or whatever. I was emphasising that she considers herself ugly because of her physical deformity, and that's how she defines herself.

As a side note, this is one of my earliest renders (Feb 2020).

Not in writing so far, though if I ever get around to my sapphic War of the Worlds re-telling the answer will become "yes".

"Why not?" because "Why?" I have plenty of my own ideas, in fact limitless ideas.

Then I remembered that time I wrote an audio play based on a Eurhythmics song (I had a vague idea of doing a series of them - I didn't).

As 3D render practice I sometimes take movie scenes and try to recreate them, with varying degrees of success. It's good training.

I'm writing the follow-up to The Damsel and the Mermaid. For context, the mermaid, Khu, can change both hers and Maylees' shape, but they still can't talk to each other.

Which was the point she realised she had lost Khu.

The water here was reasonably clear but she couldn’t see her and panicked like a lost child in a crowded market.

“Khu!” She managed to articulate the sound though she wasn’t quite sure how that worked because it wasn’t air, and she didn’t breath out. It was almost as if she was swallowing the word.

She thought about going back into the cave but she didn’t know how to change shape. And she couldn’t run home to the villa any more, her old life was gone.

Being bi myself, writing bi characters has always been my easy way out. And because I write female presenting characters almost exclusively, that means women with women is the culturally "non-standard" option. (Language is stupidly awkward at times.)

So deciding to write a lesbian MC was a very deliberate decision, which is how Miralees from the "Dragons of the Wounded Land" series, came about. It's also why I decided to make sure I wasn't doing anything stupid so had the books read by a lesbian writer friend (not here on Mastodon).

Her only comment was "moooaar romance!".

So yeah, Miralees knows she's different but not why until she falls for Daria in a big way very suddenly. And is somewhat horrified by what happens. (She gets over the shock quickly, and over Daria eventually.)

Deciding to write a strict romance genre story without a lot of time to do it - I need printed copies in two weeks. I started at the end of March.

And wanting to make it illustrated - because why not make it even harder?

Story written and edited. Cover graphic sorted, now looking at the illustrations... create a 3D image, and then apply a couple processes in GIMP to make it look a bit pencil drawn.

I have my new Linux computer, everything is running including the Windows versions of Scrivener and DazStudio. I can now do proper renders on DazStudio as I'm not memory-limited, and Blender runs like the devil, incredible.

I finished writing "The Damsel and the Mermaid", and my wife finished giving it an edit yesterday.

Although I have engaged my usual cover designer, she's going to be using the images I create, similar to the one attached below.

I have got "Maliha Anderson Complete" compilation created on Atticus (painfully slow it's so huge) and up on to Amazon, from thence to Audible so the narrator can upload the already completed audiobooks - that was the sole reason, omnibuses are more cost-effective.

Just trying to get everything together for the show on June 6/7.

So we (my wife and I) are booked to trade at a steampunk event on June 6th/7th.

My wife said, late March this year, "the theme for the event is pirates and mermaids, we could write books". So I said "That's a good idea."

The file was opened March 25th and the writing completed at 30K words on May 4th. And I'm now working on the clean-ups.

On the one hand, I really like the idea and that was one reason I started doing monochrome erotic illustrations.

On the other hand, I don't like forcing my own image of the characters on my readers.

On the other other hand, Bookfunnel are now allowing additional item downloads with any books they're delivering so you can give people extra stuff - including pictures.

And on the final hand, I can't do it for most of my fantasy books because there is no 3D model of a feathered wyvern, which is beyond frustrating. (I've even offered people money to make one.)
