  1. SF :batman:

    Elasmucha ferrugata

  2. We've had some nice low tides along Puget Sound. July 5th was about a minus 3.9. Some creatures:
    1) Mottled Star (Evasterias troschelii)
    2) Ochre Sea Star (Pisaster ochraceus) and Painted Anemone (Urticina grebelnyi)
    3) Orange Sea Cucumber (Cucumaria miniata)
    4) Northern Kelp Crab (Pugettia producta)

  3. Tan Jumping Spider (Platycryptus undatus) on Milk and Wine Lilly. Thanks to SpiderJoe, I was reminded this species doesn't hang out on flowers. This spider was indoors and took it outside and I placed it on the flower thinking she would like it. #spider #macro #macrophotgraphy

  4. A young Silver Garden Spider (Argiope argentata) most likely. When I shot this, the entire stabilimentum (the decorative part of the web) was smaller than a dime, about 12mm by 9mm. The spider's body is 3mm long, about the size of Roosevelt's nose on a dime. The body of an adult female would be around 12mm with long legs. #spider #macro #macrophotgraphy #arachnid #wildlifephotgraphy

  5. Tinus peregrinus is a species of Nursery Web Spider that I find frequently at two local parks with a lot of water in South Texas. I was excited to get this angle capturing the water tension. #spider #macro #macrophotgraphy #wildlifephotogaphy

  6. This little beauty is an Oribatid (Cepheus) mite nymph. Each ring of ornate scales on the mite's back are a previously moulted exoskeleton!

I've been trying to get a good photo of these for so long, and it turns out all I had to do was go looking around the research station grounds where I work.

  7. A little planthopper nymph, going about his business, trailing a fluff of silk behind him like a rocket's exhaust and keeping a wary lookout with his chameleon eye.

  8. Why should the bum of a fly be so lovely? Okay, that was rhetorical, before you start answering.
