  5. Setting a good background region for SDM/ENM is tricky when survey effort is heavily biased - which it often is. I've implemented some new approaches in package fuzzySim. Anyone up for trying them out? modtools.wordpress.com/2024/10

  8. I'm leaving my senior research position at the University of Bern in March. I'm focusing on my consulting. I'm currently open to new environmental #datascience and #editorialservices #freelance work with a focus on #remotesensing, #macroecology, #ecosystems modelling and/or #foodsecurity.

I'm also open to remote work in a fixed-term contract setting up to 50% FTE (EU fiscal basis).

Check bluegreenlabs.org for past experiences and projects. Please boost.

  10. This new "temperature range squeeze hypothesis" was supported by a huge, global dataset of plant elevation ranges and has big implications for how we expect species ranges to shift with increasing climate variability caused by climate change.

  11. Here's an interesting preprint on #EcoEvoRxiv (not yet peer reviewed). Its authors use eBird's massive citizen science database to reassess a long held pattern in macroecology, the abundance-occupancy relationship. That says that more widespread species (those with larger ranges) are also typically more abundant, on average. Yet, looking at this big bird dataset, it looks like this is not true. Which is interesting!

  26. Hola 👋🏼 I’m super happy to have joined Mastodon. As a newcomer, here’s a bit about me: I’m a #Uruguayan biologist, doing research in #macroecology and #biodiversityinformatics. Currently, I’m a #postdoc researcher at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague where I study the range dynamics of #Neotropical #carnivores. I’m also the coordinator of #Biodiversidata and the admin of #NaturalistaUY. My interests are diverse but include #OpenScience, #CameraTraps and #ParticipativeResearch. Cheers!

  28. Let me introduce myself:

    I'm a #wildlife #ecologist, lover of #macroecology & #invasionecology.
    I'm interested in #sciencepolicy work & how scientific evidence can be translated & delivered to #decisionmakers & relevant #stakeholder . I'm also very interested in #scicom / #sciencecommunication .

I lead a synthesis centre, a small funding agency.

Expect from me here Informationen on biodiversity related issues, calls for funding opportunities, distribution of #jobs & some #music stuff.

  29. New data paper alert!

"SPCIS: Standardized Plant Community with Introduced Status database", published in Ecology.

This data paper provides >80,000 quantitative plant community surveys in US and PuertoRico, each defining native or exotic species origin.
