I got TWELVE HOURS before I had to reboot macOS this time

this time I dared try to save a plain text file and textedit crashed so hard it couldn't start _or_ stop, it was in some suspended state of indeterminate dock-bouncing behaviour

lowkey speculating that macos system devs have incorporated ai into their code generation and exactly the kind of bullshit you'd expect to happen is happening

I've never seen that happen before.

People have been reporting devices not being found after the upgrade, but no apparent solutions.

Looks like I got lucky. Sheesh.

To summarize.
Apple Legal signed off on “inaccurate, unexpected, or offensive” content being pushed to users *by default*...

This is wild. In the updated Mac User Guide when you click on "learn more" in the Apple Intelligence area of the Settings it says:

"Turn Apple Intelligence on: With macOS 15.3 or later, Apple Intelligence is on by default and integrated across features in your apps. "

then a few lines later…

"Note: Apple Intelligence is currently in beta. Apple Intelligence uses generative models, and outputs may be inaccurate, unexpected, or offensive. Check important information for accuracy."

I would also like to say to Apple. You've had Siri for how many years? You've added many variations to your English speakers. But no Canadian variations.

Perhaps it's just the moment we're in, but I'd like to see a Canadian Western, Canadian Eastern, Canadian Maritime, and Newfoundland Option for Siri.

You can turn Apple Intelligence off on macOS in the new “Apple Intelligence & Siri” area of System Settings.

The ui will show the status of the index rebuild.

What is it?

- `mdutil` - utility to manage Spotlight indexes
- `-i on` - turn indexing on

I tried using Sequoia's tiling feature, and honestly it feels incredibly half-baked compared to third party apps like Rectangle (open source, free).

Incredibly disappointing to wait for a feature like this, only to have it half-cooked.

The new Passwords app in iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia has a notes field that you can fill with all the stupid security questions you're often prompted to create.

A word of caution to people venturing out and downloading macOS Sequoia dev or public betas. If you use Google Drive sync, it might break and you’ll suddenly get that acid taste in your mouth.

I have had to do this the last two years during beta season.

Disconnect Google Drive sync in settings. Restart. Delete Google Drive the app. Restart. (I don’t know if restarting matters. I just do it. I also empty my trash.)

DON’T delete your local files. DO memorize the location it is at!

So, as long as Norway has not implemented the DMA act, we are on the good side according to Apple and we have gotten iPhone Mirroring. And we will hopefully be able to play with Apple Intelligence when it gets introduced in betas this autumn.

I am in favour of one App Store. Any thing else is a mess. Apple's share should of course be much lower...

I really just need a chat bot to tell me which new iOS 18 or macOS Sequoia feature requires an iPhone 15 Pro or M1 chip.

Does the cool handwriting thing work with a pre M-series iPad Air? The new handwriting (soulver) math thing?

I’m due to a new iPhone 16 Pro this fall but *really* can’t upgrade my iPad Air too!

And what about my four HomePods?? Will they be permanently crippled (okay, more crippled) and not access any of the cool new Siri stuff?
