  1. I've seen lots of turkeys in #stpaul but mostly around Summit Hill a few blocks from Dale and Selby. They've moved closer to us, now -- this at Saint Clair and Cretin.

Personally, I would take more turkeys for fewer rabbits. The rabbit population around here is just bonkers. When I do my morning walks, most yards will have one to three rabbits just sitting there. You see them all day, too.
Writing that, it makes me think we could use some urban foxes. Years back there was a family of foxes whose den was literally under the State Capitol in Madison -- foxes can and do live in urban areas.

...which makes me wonder: why don't you see more of them? It seems like basic predator-prey population dynamics. Think of the classic Lotke-Volterra model. A few foxes could make their way into the urban area here, feast like kings, and reproduce like...er...rabbits.

  2. Another little detail of everyday life here that makes me happy: owls!

There was a pair of great horned owls in my old neighborhood, and I didn't expect there would be any in my new neighborhood in Saint Paul. But last night I heard an owl. Pretty sure it was a barred owl: allaboutbirds.org/guide/Barred
