The MegOp wedding in Shanghai is probably going to be a core fandom memory for me. It's only been a week or so, yet I think about it constantly. Before I shipped this (mostly) unironically, I remember making a satirical piece of fanart in the margins of my notes where they had a wedding.
Optimus looked quite happy with the peaceful resolution, and Megatron looked less than pleased with the arrangement (or maybe just at wearing human clothing. Optimus was wearing a dress, Megatron a tux. Normally I dislike how Optimus tends to be disproportionately given feminine clothing in fanart, but...here comes the Prime...gotta lean into that wordplay 😂 .)
I even drew a symbol that was basically the (somewhat cursed) lovechild of the Autobot and Decepticon symbols to represent the resulting peace between their factions.)
But the idea that YEARS later, a fan took a silly idea that I thought very little of, and was dedicated enough and had the disposable income to make it happen in REAL LIFE!? :ablobcatbongo: I'll be referencing this event forever in posts vaguely related to weddings. :ablobcatcry: (Even when posting about fandoms other than Transformers. Especially when posting about fandoms other than Transformers. The love for MegOp will shine through!)

I thought Megatron and Optimus were doomed to eternal divorce after no TFone sequel. But thanks to a very devoted fan in Shanghai, they are now married! :blobcatscream:

A MegOp/Dpax AMV by Mighty ANT. I was a little skeptical when I started watching because the song used was a heavily religious one — the duet between Moses and Ramses from Prince of Egypt, but you could say I've been converted! The chanting of, "Thus saith the Lord" at the beginning gives it such a haunting feel!
The creator syncs the lyrics beautifully with Orion and Dee's bonding moments, and the fighting of their later incarnations in canon for maximum gut punch. I highly recommend this if (for some reason!) you want to speedrun the heartache that can only come from the strongest of bonds come undone.

Alana reflects on her relationship with Seaspray, and their place in Tlalakan society due to the nature of their bond. But a decent chunk of the fic is just Seaspray being an big awkward sweetheart around her, and it's soo endearing.
One of the reasons why I adore Cybertronian x human relationships is because of the tender care the robots have to show towards their human partners in things other couples wouldn't think twice about. This fic leans into that so well, and doesn't shy away from depicting their differences, while also showing them being...comfortable, and trusting of those differences.
And best of all? Seaspray stays in robot mode the whole time! :blobcataww: Not once does he transform into his organic form! Just gentle robot cuddles all around! :bigblobhajhug:

1A) Favorite dynamic? I honestly hadn't thought about what "category" their relationship I prefer their relationship to fall under until now. Probably queerplatonic, particularly for my interpretation of their relationship in canon. (Though I have begun reading Victory Condition, an E-rated fic, and it's mind-blowingly good. (And I haven't even gotten to the smut yet!) So who knows, Astolat may convert me yet!)
4A) I don't really ship them as a sexual couple, and only occasionally read E-rated fics about the pairing, so I don't have any strong top/bottom preferences. But then, I headcanon Transformers in general as being on the ace spectrum. Except for in G1 and Beast Wars. Mainly because of the more comedic tones of those shows, and the quirks of sexual attraction can lead to bots seeking out people they otherwise wouldn't be able to stand, which is perfect for crackier relationships. :3
12A) To be honest I don't usually seek out rare tropes. Most of the fic I seek out for them tend to follow the same formula—halted love confessions or pining pre-war, or reconciliations post-war. The only possibly rare thing I can think of that I crave is a medieval type AU for them, but I haven't actively sought that out. I am the devourer of second cakes.
14A) Ooooh...to be honest I'm so happy with the interactions I see in gifs and official material that I don't usually seek out fanart of them. But I do love this one (Alt text: Megatron, wearing his miner uniform with hazard stripes, sits with Orion Pax, who has his mask off. They're both smiling and enjoying some Energon together.) It's rather sad that their prewar selves barely had a chance to interact on good terms in IDW, much less become close friends.
6B) Favorite version of their canon? That's so hard...I like all of the ones where they've had a personal history with each other. But I ultimately love Transformers: Exodus the best, since it's had such an impact on other origin stories of theirs, and on fanon interpretations of their relationship. It's a Transformers: Prime prequel novel, with excellent worldbuilding in general, but it also showed how different their worlds were, in terms of life experience. They had idealism in common, but their life experience was worlds apart. Even when Megatron showed Orion the brutality of gladiatorial combat in Iacon, he still didn't understand the extent of his oppression.
8B) I enjoy at least a little ambiguity. This fic, (recced by @soundwave!) plays with this ambiguity in a heartbreaking way.
14B) When there's sexual tension...unresolved. All the way! (Unless it's an E-rated fic, and I actively sought it out, but that isn't as often.)

Transformers One Fanfic Rec
In Spite of It. by Gigzmcgeezie
A postwar fic told from Megatron's perspective. He and Optimus watch the sky from the place where the former betrayed the latter, and they reflect on their long war.
A simple enough premise―but it's executed masterfully. The author nailed Megatron's character, even weaving in elements from other continuities, such as his penchant for poetry in IDW. His banter with Optimus, the way he shifts between poetic and snarky, is excellent.
While the authorial intent appears to be to ship them (MegOp is tagged), it can also be enjoyed in a platonic way. Even after supposed millennia of war, their interactions feel like their old selves have met each other again, and it’s absolutely beautiful.

Apparently the ship between D-16 and Orion Pax has its own ship name, separate from the one between Megatron and Optimus! (I found it scrolling through the #MegOp tag on Bsky!) It's called #Dpax !
A lot of shippers double tag it as MegOp for visibility, but I think it's great that it has a name, especially since I thought it was a shame that prewar MegOp apparently didn't have a ship name, and that's my preferred dynamic for them!

Category: GenFirst recced to me by @soundwave , and I'm passing this gem down the chain!
Much of the fic is Optimus reminiscing on canon events, but these events are filtered through Optimus' optics so beautifully. I felt the anguish of D-16's betrayal right along with him, the searing pain as his cannon's blast tore through him...the prose cuts deep.
There was one point where I teared up a tiny bit, just like in the film. And the small, non-canon details the author added about Megatron's past self only drove the dagger deeper into my Spark.
The author intentionally left the nature of their relationship ambiguous, so it can be read as romantic or platonic, and their relationship feels real and well-developed regardless of whether you see them as friends or lovers who never had a chance to confess.
