TIL: Der Import von 4500 Bildern in Adobe #Lightroom Classic bringt den #M3MAX im #Macbook an seine Grenzen. Der Lüfter lüftet fleißig vor sich hin. Ich war eben erstmal irritiert über das Geräusch... 😄

Has anyone run proper HPL on the newest #M3Max Macbook Pros with the maxed out configuration?

And if so, was that while linking against #accelerate or against some other #BLAS library?

I want to do an update to my previous M1 ultra write up from last year with more modern HW.

This time with "real" DGEMM numbers, lower cost using new tools that have arrived in market like TB4->QSFP/SFP28/SFP56 docks that should drastically lower costs and footprint, increasing density and other fun things

Why am I looking at the specs for the new M3 MBP? I don't need a new laptop... sure the M3 is amazing and I've always been a sucker for the latest CPU, but really, that became old about ten years ago (and today's Intel laptop CPU and the ones from 2013 seem to be more or less the same in real life performance...)

Beim M3Pro nagt ein bisschen die Reduktion der Performance Cores in Relation zu den Efficiency Cores. Und GPU Cores werden im Vergleich zum M1Pro auch nicht so viel furchtbar mehr. Was wird integriertes Raytracing bringen?

Alles in allem scheint Apple die Leute mehr zum M3Max bewegen zu wollen. Der macht auch irgendwie mehr Sinn...

Sieht so aus, als würde es für mich dieses Jahr dann doch mal wieder ein neues #macbookpro geben. Die Farbe Schwarz sagt mir schon sehr zu. Jetzt ist eher die Frage ob #m3pro oder #m3max . Damit verbunden, die Frage nach dem RAM. Als Developer hab ich gelernt, man hat nie genug RAM 😅 @Apfelfunk ich bin gespannt auf die nächste Folge zu dem Thema 😁

While Apple’s performance comparison visualizations can be quite dubious, comparing to multiple previous generations of the architecture they’re debuting is actually useful. It helps answer the question: Okay, so maybe it’s not worth it to upgrade from M2 to M3, but what about M1 to M3?

And the answer is: It depends.

I have an M1 Pro Macbook Pro for work. I’m not pushing its boundaries. I don’t need an upgrade. But maybe M4 next year?
