After almost 5 years of using company-provided MacBooks, I’ve decided to have my own. My last personal laptop was a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex5, and it is now my daughter’s laptop, so I was without a personal PC for years. It felt like homelessness.

Switching from space gray company-provided M2 Pro to my own silver M4 Pro.

Also, I really like to set up new laptops and phones from scratch.

#hashcat was doing around 40 hashes per second when cracking bcrypt/blowish hashes (cost 10/12) and when running directly on the #M2Pro #Mac using #Metal, and while that was running the computer was very slow and I couldn't do anything else at the same time. 1/2

A bit disappointed by the performance of the #GPU in my #M2Pro mini with #hashcat. Quite slow actually. #AppleSilicon #infosec

My office #iMac arrived the other day. 🎉 It’s an impressive machine in almost every way. Feels a little bit faster for everyday tasks than even my #M2Pro #MacBook, though slower for anything CPU-intensive, which is what you’d expect.

In fact my only minor complaint is that you have to tilt the display to get the right framing for video capture. Other than that it’s darn near perfect. Plus it looks 🤩. #Apple

recently i have complained about the preview in #lightroom turning black until the cursor moves (or it takes a few seconds or glitches until it reveals the current content) – i have since realized that affinity photo is affected as well, althrough not as bad. are there some #apple #m2pro #m2 owners who know something on the issue? i am not sure how to look it up right now, this is quite frustrating...

This wouldn’t be surprising since the #M3Pro has two fewer performance cores and less memory bandwidth than the equivalent M2 model. But the M3’s performance and efficiency cores are 15% and 30% faster, respectively, so everyday performance should still be improved. I’m up and going on my new #M2Pro #MacMini personal desktop (replacing a 2018 i7 model), my #Windows laptop is an #arm powered #samsung , my work machine is an #M1Ultra #MacbookPro and all my phones and tablets are arm too. So is my switch, now that I think about it. It’s strange to think my x86 footprint is now down to my #SteamDeck , my Gaming/Streaming PC and #XboxOne

After months of work getting Linux to stabilize on M1 processors, it is finally ready for mainline users. ZDNet says Linux 6.2 is expected to become Ubuntu 23.04's default kernel and will be included in Fedora 38 before the April release of Linux 6.3.

Comparison of the #Apple laptop I just got to a 5 yr old #MacBookPro. This would be a realistic comparison of the situation the majority of people upgrading would be in.

Yeah, I know some extol virtues of old Macs, but reality is those machines aren't really doing anything. Running an OS, web browsing or what not, a $100 Chromebook can do. Today's MacBook Pro laptops out-perform 3 yr old $10k-$50k #MacPros with professional apps & smoke 5yr old MacBook Pros. #M2Pro

This laptop really does go 18 hours on a charge. I've been browsing, GIMP editing, and WordPress editing on battery, actively more than half the time since 6:00am. It's now midnight, 18 hours later, the low battery notification just came on at 10% capacity left.
