  1. youtu.be/EYzN_tgut88?t=3966 ← The CHM's oral history of #LynnConway was just put up on YouTube. I've linked to a timecode well into the video, where she sums up exactly the sort of "communities over products" thinking that inspires me to find technology satisfying. #PermaComputing

  2. i just read “#LynnConway’s #Story” (2000), which is just a few pages long, and it gave me such a deep insight into her life and accomplishments, i’d really recommend it! (also she passed away on June 9th 2024.)

  5. Lynn Conway was the first trans person I knew that I was meeting. She came and spoke to my women's studies class in 1999. That's where I learned that being trans was a thing. And the next day, I told my friends I'd be transitioning.

I got scared and went back into denial for 20 more years, but that's not Lynn Conway's fault.

  8. Lynn Conway was remarkable in a number of ways but I think the reason her death hits me so hard even though I didn’t know her personally is the most unremarkable thing about her: One of us got to live her life quietly, grow old, and be remembered fondly as herself in death.

    I think that’s all I really want.

And the Nitter / birdsite thread also mentions:

    #LynnConway (also a pioneer transwoman)

Other than in terms of name recognition and symbolic inspiration, all of them influenced computer science more than Ada Lovelace.

Each of them deserves her own #HPREp !
  10. Die Informatikern Lynn Conway flog bei IBM als Transsexuelle raus. Sie machte eine zweite Karriere in der IT, eine Entschuldigung von IBM ließ auf sich warten.
