  1. Having an unexpected & surprisingly long-lasting #MECFS flare-up the past four weeks. Turns out I caught #Lyme disease. Tick (or other insect) bite, although I did not notice it. Classical ring-shaped rash. Been on high seas when standing up, with concomitant migraines for weeks. Totally exhausted and at the edge all the time.

All precautions were in place, but I just seem to get "lucky," infection-wise, these past few years. That's life.

Take care of yourselves. It's rough out there.

  12. CC/Airborne aware friends: here are a few areas the hantavirus news has reminded me about where I can up my game a bit.Or maybe they are just a few things I can do to make myself feel like I'm doing something. That's valid, right?

    1) Stock up on N95s. Always a good idea.
    2) Order some tick repellent. Because...Lyme disease is nasty too.
    3) Order more alcohol wipes (or research what to use to wipe down packages outside the house in case rodents have pooped on my packages.)
    4) Wear a mask when digging in dirt. Even in my own yard. Where I have seen rodents and birds. Because... mice and birds both poop. In my yard. And they carry diseases. Avian influenza season cometh again.
    5) Oh never mind. I'm tired, and that's all I can handle thinking about pathogens and poo tonight.

  24. Tick-Borne Disease Are Rising: Take These Steps to Stay Safe

“Most people bitten by a Lone Star tick won’t develop an alpha-gal allergy, though some will still test positive in a blood test. Because of this, clinicians typically don’t recommend getting tested unless there’s a strong suspicion that alpha-gal allergy is causing problems. People who can avoid getting bitten again may lose the allergy after about three to five years, though it could happen quicker—or not at all”

  29. A #vaccine for #LymeDisease could be on the horizon
If approved, shot would be first vaccine for #Lyme disease in nearly 3 decades
If regulatory agencies give the vaccine, dubbed #LB6V, the green light, it would help fend off Lyme disease in hikers, gardeners and others at risk for #tick bites.
LB6V is the first shot to make it this far on the path to approval since another vaccine was pulled from the market in 2002, in part because of low demand.
