So this worked out so much better than expected. #Ly is the best display manager I've used.

For me it's killer features are:
* Keyboard only. Great when pointing devices are working or are annoying
* Uses all monitors. Seriously, why isn't this considered critical for all login systems?
* Remembers per user options (which environment to boot). Even allows for custom per user configurations of environments to boot.

So, reading through all the NixOS options for supported display managers, #ly stuck out as the first one I noticed that wasn't part of a desktop environment. Thus I guessed it might work better with a variety of DEs, with a bonus of TUI style so it works with just a keyboard.

So I installed it.

Least pretty option I've ever used, but it worked. It even remembers each users most recently used DE (or raw shell? I wonder what that does) when you select that user!

Dann findet sich in der #systemctl-Liste weder ein ly-Dienst noch #network-Service. Ja, ich hatte am Freitag noch eine Systemaktualisierung durchgeführt. Da war weder ungewöhnliches noch verdächtiges dabei und lief fehlerfrei durch. Nun existiert das Kommando #startx angeblich nicht mehr.

Auf welchem Stockwerk sich meine Laune befindet, dürfte leicht zu erraten sein 🤬 Nein, ich habe keine Motivation zur Fehlersuche. Mir hängen solche Sperenzien zum Hals heraus 🤯 Früher fand ich sowas spannend, weil es mich von wichtigen Dingen ablenkte. Doch diese Zeiten sind vorbei, ich will einfach nur ungestört arbeiten. Vielleicht wechsel ich doch wieder von #ArchLinux zu #Debian. Wenn "rolling" mir immer wieder das System zerschießt, kann ich darauf verzichten. #Linux

Am trying to create a module for #ly (a TUI display manager) on #NixOS. Was able to boot it, which is cool, but I haven't been able to make the desktop manager to also boot after login.

We are close though.
