CW: NZPol - the lie that Penk was a lone wolf
The Nats are tying themselves in knots trying to defend their big lie that Chris Penk was acting alone when he tried to roll the PM.
The press gallery all know Penk was playing wing-man to Erica Stanford with Mark Mitchell and Chris Bishop being integral to the plan. Everyone knows.
Now we have Stanford slipping out back doors to avoid media while Luxon is desperately spinning his potential overthrow as "old news." He continues to maintain he has the full support of his caucus.
Apart from those with knives behind their backs, obviously.

Related: For more on this subplot, see Tova O'Brien's double-header with Kieran McAnulty and Chris Bishop. The latter's visible thought processes punctuated with uncomfortable silences reveal a naughty schoolboy constructing porkies in real time, and failing.

CW: RNZ -- Luxon's on the ropes
This analysis from RNZ's Russell Palmer suggests that while Luxon has survived yet another leadership test, he's still on the ropes.
The story summarises Luxon's major blunders, mentions his lack of communication skills marked by the frequent use of buzzwords & filler phrases, and his remarkable disconnect from ordinary citizens.
Regardless of the election outcome, this National leader is on borrowed time.

New Zealand PM Chris Luxon survived a leadership fight, but a greater challenge lies ahead
A series of recent gaffes has put Luxon's leadership under a microscope as his government prepares to face the music.
-
RNZ speculates that Luxon may be about to be rolled. It points to dissatisfaction within National and helpfully lists all of his latest gaffs to remind readers that Luxon lacks the skills and mental agility to be PM.
Of course the rest of us knew that already.

Normally you'd expect politicians to be on same page, just three months from an election. But Chris Luxon improvising policy on the fly has caught most Nat MPs off guard. While Luxon is promising another MMP referendum, his MPs are busy explaining that it's certainly *not* National policy.
National have a fool for a leader and we have a klutz for a PM.

Another quotable quote from Christopher Luxon after he was sprung using an Air Force plane to transport himself and some mates back to Auckland after they'd attended a National Party fundraiser in Whanganui.
"Those planes need to be flying, and the pilots need the hours and the training anyway. It's not costing the taxpayer any additional money."
Let he who hasn't hitched a ride on a passing Air Force plane which just happened to be going in the same direction at no cost cast the first stone.
Form an orderly queue please.

Paul Goldsmith with a quote for the ages on PM Luxon foolishly insulting NZ's small businesses.
“...the words didn’t come out quite right”
It's funny watching National MPs having to explain to media that their leader is not a blithering idiot trapped in a world of corporate speak. Here's another Goldsmith quote.
“The words that came out gave the impression that we don’t support small businesses – of course we do."
If Christopher Luxon doesn't have imposter syndrome by now, he bloody well should have.

Ending Homelessness?
If Luxon does end homelessness, who's going to guard the shop doorways in Queen Street overnight? -
From Darien Fenton on #Facebook (with hashtags added here):
'What Andrea #Vance said in The Post today:
'Andrea Vance: If a foreign diplomat can stand up to Peters, why can’t #Luxon?
'OPINION: ...
'Only weeks ago, #NZFirst proposed stripping around half a million permanent residents of voting rights. Last month its #Mumbai-born Upper Harbour #candidate Bernadette Soares suggested temporarily closing the border to migrants.
'...In April deputy leader #ShaneJones dismissed a trade deal with #India by saying he didn't want a “butter chicken tsunami” coming to New Zealand.
'Do not diminish any of this as empty parliamentary theatre.
'This is the exact playbook of Donald #Trump’s #MAGA movement. That is precisely how the rhetoric took root in the United States: first non-white #migrants were scapegoated and their #loyalty questioned, #voting rights were stripped, then border control was militarised, ICE raids become routine, and the civic fabric of a nation was torn apart.
'To secure his own #political survival, Peters is dragging New Zealand down the same toxic path as the US and the UK, actively importing hyper-polarisation and fracturing social cohesion until the country becomes as divided and ungovernable as Washington or Westminster.'Its also straight out of another playbook: Peters’ own campaign manual.
He has long understood the value of provoking governing partners into overreacting and then presenting himself as the aggrieved victim.
'Which leaves Christopher Luxon with a problem of his own making.
'By failing to draw a line early in the coalition, he allowed Peters to define where the line sits. Sack him now and Peters claims martyrdom. Keep him, and Luxon owns both the behaviour and the message it sends.

No, however in his final full year as CEO of NZ state owned airline, Air New Zealand, we did, unfortunately, see Christopher Luxon receive a short-term bonus of NZ$1.62 million, alongside his base salary of NZ$1.47 million and additional share rights worth roughly $808,000. His total remuneration package for that year was NZ$4.7 million.
I would suggest that with his fellow corrupt politicians and associates on the board of Air NZ awarding #Luxon these undemocratic bonuses that this should be considered public theft. #NZPol

At this point #Luxon and his #NZPol coalition of crooks have become a huge liability to #Aotearoa #NewZealand trade, economy and environment.
-
#NewZealand writer Eugene Doyle of Solidarity joins Pascal Lettaz of Neutrality Studies to discuss the #NZPol Prime Minister Chris Luxon and his RW government’s abandoning of the NZers kidnapped from the #SumudFlotilla in international waters and beaten by Israel terrorists.
This interview breaks down the shameful complicity of #Luxon along with #AusPol PM #Albanese and western governments in the #genocide occurring in #Gaza and allowing #Israel to torture civilian citizens of #NZ and #Australia.
Note the absolute silence of these #CrimesAgainstHumanity in #NZMedia and #AusMedia also complicit in these appalling crimes being committed by #Israel.
Regardless of what you think of PM Luxon and foreign affairs minister Winston Peters as politicians there’s no doubt that they are #WarCriminals failing to uphold their obligations to support NZ citizens being tortured for attempting to provide international humanitarian aid.

CW: NZ - Luxon vs OECD
In their annual country report for NZ, the OECD concluded that National's over-priced gas terminal locking in fossil dependence is, and I paraphrase, a stupid idea.
"... and instead recommended investment in non-gas generation like biomass or pumped hydro."
But Christopher Luxon reckons that he knows better than the OECD and claims that their warning on the government's LNG plans are "a load of rubbish."
"Luxon said the coalition government was not going to tolerate "bumper sticker" policies or the sort of "kumbaya and mush" that Labour pursued while it was in power."
Putting aside the immorality of promoting fossil fuels over renewables, a deeply unpopular NZ Prime Minister describing the collective wisdom of the OECD as "kumbaya and mush" is one for the record books.
Dunning-Kruger appears to be getting the better of our PM. The man's an utter embarrassment.
-
"The roundtable, hosted by ANZ Bank, was to have "open and constructive conversation" about how things could be done better."
AKA roundtable says Luxon is dumb

Never forget who #Luxon and his coalition of criminals are defending.

CW: Oil crisis - NZ Labour finds its voice
Chris Hipkins pops up after a long absence and claims National are not prepared for the incoming oil shock.
Given the IMF's warning that the fuel crisis is likely to lead to a global recession, Hipkins seems close to the mark.
Luxon responded, that was why the government was "focused on avoiding the mistakes seen during the Covid response."
Pardon? Is this somehow Labour's fault?
It seems bizarre that Luxon isn't considering options like carless days and working from home, as many other countries are already doing. Especially when NZ is right at the far end of the supply chain.
---
Please... take a moment to appreciate this classic gobbledygook from Luxon as he tries to think on his feet.
"What I agree with is we want this resolved as quickly as possible. We want the parties negotiating, I know ceasefire negotiations, you know, we want ceasefire will remain holding, we want the parties negotiating a negotiated settlement."
It's embarrassing that this inadequate man leads our country.

The Iranians are correct. #Luxon #Peters #Seymour and any other #NZPol parties complicit in the war crimes and crimes against humanity being carried out by #US, #Israel and their allies can expect to find themselves in the #Hague charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity sometime in the future.
Never forgive never forget.
-
@zl2tod @Niall @runoutgroover Indeed! The absolute temerity. No wonder #Luxon needed to tell them off.
-
The only ethical, moral and legal decision this #Luxon #NZPol government should be making with regard to the illegal and immoral war against Iran in defence of the child molesting, genocidal #Epstein Empire is to advise #Trump and his rogue state to either surrender immediately or be isolated from any alliance with #Aotearoa #NewZealand.
In the meantime if this government had any sense it would be making arrangements to buy its oil, fertiliser and any other commodities that need to travel through the Strait of Hormuz using the Chinese yuan.
Sadly, this govt seems determined to support NZ being taken down with the failing US dollar.

Trump has just threatened to attack Greenland if NATO doesn’t help him in his illegal war with Iran.
With NZ coward in chief Christopher #Luxon supporting the pedophile president is he not only abandoning international law but also NZ’s European allies while backing blackmail as a legitimate tactic?
-
It is really easy to understand why #Luxon likes #Trump so much when you understand they're both con artists.
#NZPol #DitchThePricksIn26 -
Yesterday Helen Clark rightly condemned the Trump regime's illegal and ongoing attacks on Iran, in breach of international law. Today's Stuff headline proclaims "Christopher Luxon hits back".
But does he? Really?
"Meanwhile on RNZ, Luxon refused to explicitly say whether New Zealand supports the Iran strikes or not."
"Asked if the strikes were the right thing to do morally, Luxon danced around the subject."
It strikes me that "Spineless Luxon dances on the head of a pin" might have been a more accurate headline.
Our PM lacks a moral backbone.
