  2. You know, I buy this reaction, straight off! Trying to support her head instead of hugging her makes sense, if you are considerate but have had zero instructions in romance or intimacy.

  3. This is the third episode straight I've been staring at that chest behind Baili Hongyi.

    *inhales*

I don't need another chest. I _don't_ need another DIY project! _I don't need another chest!!!_

  4. The L-shaped duvets* looks a bit different in China I see...

(*Special Hollywood duvets that covers the chests of women while simultaneously allows their male bed companions to show off their muscular torsos.)

(Edit to stave off confusion: according to historical records people _were_ this awkward early in their marriage - no shade on the couple!)

  5. The director and/or the set designer of this production really _really_ loves mess! Mr Unsightly's den must be a favourite opportunity!

(Yes, I do know how to take a real screenshot - it's just that it's usually faster to snap a still using my mobile.)

  6. Lady Wu Siyue often wears patterns that _feels_ very modern, like the wave print on her vest here, but I would'nt bet my hat that it is. Usually when I do I stumble over documentation that proves the pattern to be the oldest and most authentic one in the production. Unfortunately the Tiffany problem doesn't go away when you exchange Western fantasy for wuxia

  7. CW: Scary eyes, eye contact-ish

Did that actor just enlarge his _eyes_ two sizes just to look mad? That's skill...

    ...I think

...or some kind of specialised super power.

  8. Ouch! That was a kick in the gut I didn't expect! Thirty plus years ago I was so poor I basically ate every other day to make ends meet. Not for a long period (a few months), but apparently it stuck, because - yes - the everyday grey way to handle it is to drink water to feel less hungry.

  9. Note the medallions on his shirt. The historically correct way to weave such a pattern is to put them evenly spaced horisontally and vertically. His medallions are overlapping and in disarray, and so far he's been the _only_ character with this exeption.

Also: this production was _loaded_! That's not printed, that's an actual brocade!

(Sorry for the bad quality pic - for reasons this is the last chance I get to take a non-spoiler photo.)

  10. These two actresses haven't had much to work with so far, but they do The Most of it.

Pic1: caught talking about the husband behind his back - by the husband (not mean words, just private ones)

Pic2: the gift is not for her

Also: girl, hit him over the head with the box* - he needs a clearer message than a quiet sigh!

(*I'm not sure she can Talk To Him - sometimes those things don't work, for a number of reasons)

  11. It's interesting that White Cat Legend, that was a fairly cheap production, still beats larger ones in my watchlist visually. But Luoyang comes close! Those dusty lightbeams really are top knotch!

  12. #BOTD in #ChineseHistory: An Lushan #安祿山 (703–757), Turko-#Sogdian general and first #emperor of the #Yan # (756–63), founded after he seized #Luoyang #洛陽 in the #rebellion bearing his name. #Funfact: his name, Lushan (Roxshan), is of the same root as English #Roxanne.

  13. A COVID update is long overdue! In this video I talk briefly about how the pandemic has developed from the beginning until the end of November, from my perspective here in Luoyang.
