  1. Good morning & welcome to the Tory wipeout....

The good news (for me), my local Tory numpty has been removed....

the bad news: this was due to the Tory vote splitting - between them the Tories & Reform gained more votes than Labour.

My guess (without examine load of results) is this is not an uncommon story - which in itself is a cautionary issue, not least for 2029.

Also looks like tactical voting may have helped rid us of David Morris.

  5. The #surveillancesociety in the #LuneValley:

My local branch of #Booths (popularly known, but erroneously, as the Waitrose of the North) has introduced a #facialrecognition system into its local branch (and for all I know, all of its branches).

And in a classic bit of 'securitisation' we are told via a sticker on the door, this is for the staff & our safety.

    The creeping Orwell-isation of the UK continues;

wonder if they'll be able to link that to my Booth loyalty card & credit card data?

  10. @passenger

Well, up here, most of the work is done by the families themselves, these are not large industrialised farms, but rather mid-size holdings... that said, like you I have some concerns about agriculture labour [ractices, both as you express it but also in tied-labour (under new visa systems). I'm sure there are rich farmers in the #LuneValley but those that I know would not fit that description - but as you would rightly respond; that's only anecdotal

  15. Its certainly no surprise to us in the #LuneValley (nor to be frank is this news - there have been previous reports, but its worth re-emphasising) that the last decades have seen a major reduction or even abandonment of #busses as a key element of #publictransport.

It may not be a sufficient to engineer a #greentransition, but reviving mass bus transport seems like a necessary element to have some impact on private car use.

  19. So there's the #climatecrisis & #RishiSunak's scepticism about #netzero, there's questions about #leasehold in the #housingcrisis, there are questions about the absence of #JeremyHunt's plan to encourage #pensions funds to shift #investments into Govt. priority sectors.... but the big news from the King's Speech is that the #Tories will be bringing in legislation to regulate the unlicensed #London pedicabs (cycle rickshaws to you)... yup definitely a priority for us here in the #LuneValley!

  24. Wondering where you can enjoy some #fireworks around #Lancaster on Friday night.... why not pop out into the #LuneValley for Arkholme's annual village firework party...

  28. Just back from cycling in the #LuneValley and was really struck by the increasing number of #SUVs and other large(ish) cars that are now a sort of navel grey in colour, making them the same colour as wet tarmac.

Its an odd choice unless you're ashamed of your car & hope this colour will make its size less obvious?

Looks like a safety risk to me... as they whizz by (sometimes too close!)

Yes, down the road in the #LuneValley, while not at this level, it is a creeping tendency in our village....

There are days here in the #LuneValley when I'd agree.... but then I read the news & it all falls away - and yes, a good reason not to read the news

  40. As I was cycling round the #LuneValley, it suddenly struck me that Britain is like someone at the end of a family tree, burning through the last of the assets they gained (inherited) from previous generations' exploitative activities & unwilling to admit that some serious changes are needed to their household if its not just going to crumble away... we are a Dowager Aunt, watching (fearing) the world passing us by

  45. @RolloTreadway

yes, a friend opened a light-meals/coffee place, which has a pretty good local monopoly in the #LuneValley last year, and while he can afford to run at break-even for some time (due to other interests) even he is having difficulty keeping the business viable... difficult times indeed for #hospitality

Very similar in the #LuneValley - we do have #publictransport but its too infrequent to be of much use for anyone who has any sort of time-pressure to deal with
