Schade. Auch der aktuelle Kernel hat noch Probleme, wenn man #Firefox mit #IntelArc nutzen möchte (#LunarLake). Am Anfang läuft alles OK, aber mit der Zeit reagiert alles immer langsamer. So weit, dass selbst Tastatur-Events nicht mehr erkannt werden. Keypress ohne Release, anyone? Alle paar Sekunden geht dann mal ein Block an Events wieder durch. Sobald man Firefox beendet oder minimiert ist wieder alles normal. Selbes System läuft mit Iris Xe ohne Murren.

LG Gram 2025 laptops are thin and lights with Intel Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake chips and “hybrid AI” features

The LG Gram line of notebooks get their name from LG’s tendency to cram a lot of features into a compact body – once upon a time that meant that the LG Gram Pro series had a starting weight of one kilogram, or about 2.2 pounds. That’s not true for the 2025 lineup: the lightest model starts at 1.24 kg (2.73 pounds). But that’s still pretty extraordinary for a laptop with a 16 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel 144 Hz display, a 77 Wh battery, and up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 H-series “Arrow Lake processor.”

And that’s just one of four new LG Gram laptops that the company has introduced ahead of CES 2025. Other models have even larger displays, bigger batteries, and/or discrete graphics, among other things.

Like pretty much every other PC maker, LG is playing up the AI capabilities of its new laptops. The company says the new LG Gram Pro series offers “hybrid AI” capabilities because the notebooks have on-device and cloud AI features.

There’s a “gram chat” feature that leverages “AI algorithms to process and analyze data locally without requiring a network connection,” to answer some questions and let you quickly return to web sites, documents, and media files you have previously accessed. You can also tap into cloud-based “gram chat Cloud” features that leverage tap into OpenAI’s GPT-4o for more advanced capabilities. LG includes a 1-year subscription to the cloud service, but customers who want to keep using it after that will have to pay.

But even if you don’t care about AI at all, the new LG Gram Pro series bring significant CPU and graphics upgrades over their predecessors. While LG isn’t announcing any new models with 14 inch or smaller displays, the new laptops are still remarkably thin and light for big-screen laptops: models with 16 inch screens measure as little as 12.8mm (0.5 inches) thick and weigh around 1.24 to 1.4kg (2.73 to 3.08 pounds), while a 17 inch model is just 15.8mm (0.6 inches) thick and 3.26 pounds.

There’s also a new entry-level model called the LG Gram Book which has an older processor, smaller battery, thicker and heavier design, and a less impressive display and webcam.

LG describes the 16 inch LG Gram Pro (16Z90TS) as its first Copilot+ PC in the Gram series, since it features an Intel Lunar Lake processor with a high-performance NPU, while the LG Gram Pro (16T90P) is a convertible notebook with an Intel Arrow Lake H-series processor, and the LG Gram Pro (17Z90TR) is a 17 inch model that combines an Arrow Lake-H processor with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 graphics.

LG hasn’t announced pricing or availability yet, but the company plans to show off the laptops at CES in Las Vegas next week.

MSI Claw 7 and 8 AI+ handheld gaming PCs with Intel Lunar Lake now available for pre-order for $800 and up

The first MSI Claw handheld gaming PC wasn’t very well received when it launched earlier this year as the first (and only) model in the space to feature an Intel Meteor Lake processor and Intel Arc integrated graphics.

But MSI has promised that the company’s next-gen models would fix many of the original’s weaknesses by offering better performance and better battery life. Now the next-gen MSI Claw 8 AI+ and MSI Claw 7 AI+ are available for pre-order and they’re expected to begin shipping December 25, 2024.

MSI officially announced the launch of its new handhelds featuring Intel Core Ultra 7 (Series 2) “Lunar Lake” processors on December 3, 2024. But they actually started showing up in retail listings in late November.

They’re currently listed at several different stores, although availability varies by retailer:

• MSI Claw 7 AI+ (A2VM-001US) for $800 – Amazon, Best Buy, MSI, or ExcaliberPC
• MSI Claw 8 AI+ (A2VM-001US) for $900 – Amazon, Best Buy, MSI, or ExcaliberPC

Since both models feature Intel Lunar Lake processors, they should bring improvements to gaming performance and battery life: Intel says its new chips deliver up to 30% better graphics performance while improving energy efficiency by as much as 50% when compared with the Meteor Lake chip used in the original MSI Claw.

On paper, that could be a recipe for handhelds featuring the AMD Ryzen processors that have come to dominate this space over the  past few years. But I’d probably wait for some independent reviews before drawing any conclusions about real-world performance.

The new MSI Claw 7 AI+ (A2VM-001S) looks nearly identical to the original, which suggests that the upgrades are all on the inside. The MSI Claw 8 AI+ (A2VM-001US), meanwhile, has an updated design with a “sandstone” colored body, redesigned grips, analog sticks, bumpers, and a D-pad that MSI says should make this model more comfortable to hold while ensuring better accuracy during gaming.

It also features a bigger display, a larger battery, and faster WiFi.

For the most part the new 7 inch model appears to be physically identical to the original MSI Claw handheld gaming PC. The only significant difference is that it has Intel’s latest processor inside.

The new 8 inch model looks like a more substantial upgrade with an updated design and a much larger battery that should, when combined with Lunar Lake efficiency improvements, lead to much longer run time.

While the $800 list prices for the new handhelds seems a little high at a time when you can buy pretty good handheld gaming computers for less than half that much, it’s possible that MSI could have some lower-cost options in the works as well.

There’s mention of models with Intel Core Ultra 7 256V processors and 16GB of memory on at least one of the product pages. Whether that’s enough to lower the price significantly remains to be seen though.

But the 3D screen is just one of the things that makes this portable gaming PC unusual. It also has a big display, detachable controllers, and an Intel Lunar Lake processor with Intel Arc graphics.

The system has an 11 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel display with a 120 Hz screen refresh rate, and a set of controllers that slide on and off the sides like a pair of Nintendo Switch Joy-con controllers.

It’s the type of design we’ve seen before: the ONEXPLAYER X1 has a similarly-large display and works with detachable controllers, but while the ONEXPLAYER X1 controllers look like they were designed for a smaller handheld, the Tencent 3D One has controllers that take up the full height of the left and right sides of the game console… for better or worse. While this design does make the system look more like a handheld and less like a tablet with controllers slapped on, it also means that you’re going to have to hold this thing near the top in order for your finger to reach all the buttons, which looks awkward.

It’s worth noting that a promo video shows one gamer using the back of a couch to prop up the handheld.

The system is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor with Intel Arc 140V integrated graphics and features 32GVB of LPDDR5x-8533 memory, a 1TB SSD, and support for 100 watt fast-charging.

While AMD’s mobile chips have come to dominate the handheld gaming PC market over the past few years, Intel’s Lunar Lake processors should bring a significant boost in graphics performance which could, at least theoretically, make them competitive. But so far the only major PC maker that’s announced plans to bring a Lunar Lake handheld to market is MSI, and we’ll have to wait until next year to find out if the upcoming MSI Claw 8 AI+ lives up to its promise. And we may have to wait even longer to fir the Tencent 3D One or any other models, if they ever actually arrive at all.
