Is there any other country that exists post-invasion/occupation/colonization, had a civil war between the country’s loyalists & colonizers and then created an entire different country separate from its own country?

Having done such a marvelous job on the life of Agatha Christie, Lucy Worsley has turned her attention to Arthur Conan Doyle in her documentary, Killing Sherlock. It's a fascinating look at the man behind the much beloved detective character. Honestly, a somewhat sad tale really, of a man who wanted to matter. Very interesting seeing the evolution of both the author and the detective.

Watching #TheGunpowderPlot with #LucyWorsley. Learned a lot about #GuyFawkes and why he did what he did. Hmmm... 🤔 :anonymous:
The link below only works in the UK, but I'll see if I can find it somewhere else...

What I'm Watching: Lucy Worsley Investigates, PBS [TV]
I have always been a fan of Lucy Worsley’s history shows and this one hits the mark as well. Learn more about Jack the Ripper, The Gunpowder Plot, Bloody Mary, and how long it took William the Conquerer to truly “conquer” England. – Douglas

Stuck, surrounded by rapidly melting snow? There's the whole new series of Lucy Worsley Investigates on iPlayer right now, for historical binge-watching. Lots of revisiting big, half-remembered historical events from a modern, critical and deeply humane perspective - it's Really Good.

Murder and resistance to inequality in the Victorian era: “Lady Killers”
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/m0016pq3
This BBC podcast discusses crimes committed by women in the 19th and 20th centuries from a contemporary feminist perspective. These are often biographies of women who resisted and/or committed murder out of necessity. It is worth listening to all thirty episodes.#Podcast #Podcasts #AudioDrama #podcastodon #Podcasttipp #Luistertip #Hörspiel #TrueCrime #LadyKillers #LucyWorsley

Telly Alert - #LucyWorsley on Conan Doyle and his creation, #SherlockHolmes - haven't watched it yet, but her series on Agatha Christie was brilliant. (Like her other stuff!)
"The ultimate power struggle between the greatest detective who never lived and the writer who came to resent him. Lucy Worsley explores an extraordinary love-hate relationship."

Catching up with tonight's #Puzzling, and it's a #quiz show format that's really grown on us. Some horribly difficult rounds in it. #LucyWorsley as host works surprisingly well too, as she's delightfully odd. We like delightfully odd. We did contemplate combining quizzing with another favourite activity of ours - drinking - to take a shot every time she waves her arms around expressively for no real reason, but realised we'd be legless before the first ad break.

UK Specific topic!
Has anyone watched the Lucy Worsley "Puzzling" TV quiz show?
I watch almost no TV, but I respect Lucy as a historian. I was very confused to learn of her deviation into non-history TV.
I tuned in on catch up. I lasted about 15 mins. Enough said!

As big #quiz fans we record #Puzzling on Channel 5 and we're catching up with tonight's episode now. Some horribly difficult rounds on it. Lucy Worsley is the host. She's one of those academics who's wound up in TV presenting duties over the past few years, she's definitely not a natural TV host, but we really like the occasional awkwardness and forced normality she tries to exude. Hell, we just like nerdy people. #LucyWorsley

#LucyWorsley has a #TrueCrime #podcast about Victorian women murders examined from a modern #Feminist perspective. I've been listening to it since I heard about it the other day, and am loving it. I love everything Lucy Worsley does though. (It's on Spotify and Apple Podcasts also.) https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0016pq3

@jdmccafferty I had never heard this song before seeing Dr Lucy Worsley's programme about Tudor Christmases, and I listen to it each year now.
It absolutely breaks me - it's as beautiful as it is utterly heartbreaking:
"Lully, Lulla, Lullay"

#Childermas
