The #Dublin #Transportation Office’s 2001 final report set out an integrated #transport strategy for the Greater Dublin Area, #Ireland, from 2000 to 2016. It planned major rail expansion centred on #Luas and a fully segregated #Metro. Luas was defined as on-street light rail for corridors beyond bus capacity, with several lines under construction and further north–south and east–west routes proposed. Capacity was expected to reach up to 6,400 passengers per hour per direction, rising with priority measures. The Metro was designed as a high-capacity system, fully separated from traffic, using longer and faster #trains. Its core spine was planned from Swords to Shanganagh, with a loop linking major suburbs. Some Luas sections were earmarked for later Metro upgrade. Underground works were seen as essential, including city centre tunnels, a central #underground hub, and a heavy rail inter-connector linking key mainline stations.

Fun fact: not a single one of the four apps that I tried is aware that the Luas red line is not running all the way to The Point. Google Maps pops up an alert saying there’s a modified schedule, and will even show the full advisory about the Docklands fire that caused the closure of the end of the line, but still says—just like all three other apps—to take the train all the way to The Point, which is currently impossible. #Dublin #luas

@tog It's also just down the road from Kylemore Luas stop, as well as bus stops (for the 13, 54, and more), and right beside the Grand Canal Greenway for anyone cycling.
