I have code for 1 KiB PageGrain on MIPS qemu, which should enable a demonstration of handling a case very near VAX 512 B pages while seamlessly guaranteeing within-allocation-unit promotions to 4 KiB and 16 KiB for 64 KiB allocation units and also seamlessly handling superpage promotions to sizes that are power-of-four multiples of 64 KiB. I think there may have been some testing of a similar scenario using 256 KiB allocation units on LoongArch, but while it was verified that it didn't crash, not much was done to make sure that effective use was being made of sub- allocation unit -sized superpages esp. when there were multiple superpage sizes available between the minimum MMU mapping granularity and the kernel allocation unit.

    Rolling pgcl forward to 7.0 and the intermediate pre-7.1 somehow resuscitated binutils issues with running LTP and DAMON on hppa and some others, but it got to having no LTP regressions vs. master on 16 arches. I still need to induce enough fragmentation within a qemu session to be able to observe non-negligible defragmentation costs that might be reduced.

  19. My week at work (forward-thinking edition): preparing advice for a client on what national and local policy developments, local planning updates and of course Covid impacts mean for how they can best deliver their #transport, #placemaking and economic goals.

    Lots happening (esp. carbon, new #LTP guidance, #QCR) and it's all inter-connected. Thank goodness for whiteboards!

  20. Warwickshire County Council is refreshing its Local Transport Plan, and for the past couple of months has had its draft version in consultation for people to comment. That consultation ends on 20 November, and I have finally managed to complete a read through of all of the main strategy documents, compiling notes on what I find good, bad, and somewhere in between, along with my suggestions for improvements.

  21. CW: Local Transport Plan and Car Dependency

    Still going through the #LocalTransportPlan - this is a big piece of work! I'm on to the Managing Space Strategy.

    One statement which has jumped out at me suggests #WarwickshireCountyCouncil perhaps doesn't quite understand what #CarDependency is.

    Car dependency *always* negatively affects people's lives and #WCC should work to reduce/eliminate it everywhere - rural and urban. There should always be another travel option besides driving.

  23. Still working through #Warwickshire's draft #LocalTransportPlan, having read the Core Document, #ActiveTravel Strategy, & #PublicTransport Strategy.

    Lots to like, but also a number of issues. Two things keep coming up:

    1. "Encourage" appears too often when "enable" must be the primary focus.

    2. Use of language like "we will seek to" and "we will strive" instead of the more powerful "we will". This devalues commitments to near meaningless.
