  2. Data freaks, this is for you. Need long-term data on lakes? Well does IISD's Experimental Lakes Area have a deal for you!

  3. A fiery sunset during the Palmer #LTER cruise, West #Antarctic Peninsula.

  4. #newPaper out with colleagues from UFZ, Environmental Agency Austria and Research Centre Jülich. We analysed in which regions of Europe the sites of the new eLTER infrastructure are underrepresented and how to adapt this to current and future environmental conditions simultaneously:

  5. Save the date: LTSER workshop at @imc25

The International Mountain Conference 2025, held from September 14th to 18th in Innsbruck will host the workshop "Strengthening long-term socio-ecological research in mountain LTSER platforms" convened by members of LTER Austria and LTER Italy. We are looking foreward to your contributions! For more information please visit: imc2025.info/imc25/sessions-n-

  6. Long-term data collection + high resolution + alpine habitats + #OpenAccess = GREAT! 🥳

Our colleagues from #Eurac #AlpineEnvironment published a #DataPaper in #ScientificData with a bunch of climatic data along an elevational gradient.

The data come from an LT(S)ER area in #Vinschgau, #SouthTyrol, #italy

  7. #AlpSoil_Lab field work day 🤠

Despite a rainy start, the weather was quite friendly up at 2500m at #EuracResearch's #LTSER site Matsch/Mazia in #Vinschgau, #SouthTyrol, #Italy

Checked some #SoilTemp loggers for fresh #alpine soil temperature data from our (dry) grassland spots.

  8. Many chironomid larvae are sensitive to environmental influences and their presence is an indicator of habitat quality.
An international team of scientists have now compared and combined molecular and morphological identification methods for chironomids of the genus Diamesa.
For more on this please read: Molecular and morphological characterisation of larvae of the genus Diamesa Meigen, 1835 (Diptera: Chironomidae) in Alpine streams (Ötztal Alps, Austria). doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0

Weitere Informationen finden Sie in: Molecular and morphological characterisation of larvae of the genus Diamesa Meigen, 1835 (Diptera: Chironomidae) in Alpine streams (Ötztal Alps, Austria). doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0

  10. Glacial melting leads to altered sediment transport high alpine streams, with consequences for low-lying areas. Scientists from the @unipotsdam have developed a new method to estimate future sediment transport. For further information read: Schmidt, L. K., et al. (2023): Projecting sediment export from two highly glacierized alpine catchments under climate change: exploring non-parametric regression as an analysis tool. Hydrol. Earth Syst. 11. Lake Gossenkölle is an alpine lake located at 2,416 m above sea level. The University of Innsbruck is running a research station on its shores since 1975 (uibk.ac.at/fakultaeten/biologi). Research tasks comprise the monitoring of water parameters and studies on ecological processes and various groups of aquatic organisms and, most recently, viruses. The research site is part of the #LTER (deims.org/6ba80086-3ecc-4dc6-a) and #GLEON networks (gleon.org/lakes/gossenkoellese)

  13. Late #MountainMonday from the #LTER site in Matsch/Mazia, #SouthTyrol, #Italy.

Went up to 3000m to my sampling plots and we heared a #rockfall.

Nice hike on the high ridge between the valley.
    Love my job 😎

  14. #10YearsAgo I did a quite demanding ascent (1900m difference!) to the Schrankogel (3497m), Stubai #Alps, #Tyrol, #Austria.
The top was snow-covered, and we had to climb the cornice a bit 🤠

Amazing mountain, pyramid-shaped, and part of the scientific #LTER network in Tyrol and Austria.

  15. The past few days I had the privilege and pleasure to teach #biodiversity analyses in #Alpine environments to my great colleagues of the European Long-Term Environmental Research Infrastructure (elter-ri.eu) from all over Europe and Israel in #GranParadisoNationalPark in #Piemont #Italy

  16. Sampling season for our #AlpSoil_Lab opened.
At 2000m we sampled the first of three times the #SoilFauna in #alpine grassland habitats.

A bit cold and wet but hey, that's the alpine #environment 🤠❄️

Additional to classical #soil core samples, we took #eDNA samples 🧬

  17. #AlpSoil_Lab fieldwork is not yet finished ☝️
Reading out some #SoilTemp logger for the #MicroValu project in the winterly mountains of the #LTER site Matsch (#SouthTyrol).
Sunny, then cold and foggy, but always with amazing panorama 🏔️
