  1. The London Symphony Orchestra plays Jupiter by Holst at a free open-air concert in Trafalgar Square, London. Other pieces from The Planets are also available. They are being released gradually.

Also, check out their Barbican video of Tintagel by Bax. It’s magnificent.

  4. I love this LSO performance of Tintagel so much. I’m so glad the YouTube algorithm fed it to me a few weeks ago. #Music #LSO #ArnoldBax

  6. This is splendid. It sounds almost identical to my favourite recording of Jupiter by The Berlin Philharmonic & Herbert von Karajan.

Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano conducts the London Symphony Orchestra playing the fourth movement of Gustav Holst's The Planets: 'Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity'. Recorded on 12 September 2024 at the Barbican Centre.

  8. In the Summer of 1978 a seminal music album was released, entitled “Classic Rock“ and performed by the #LondonSymphonyOrchestra aka #LSO.

Andrew Pryce Jackman orchestrated & arranged the majority of the tracks, including my fave #TheRollingStones’ “Paint it Black”, which they also worked upon as they wanted to see how more could be extracted from their rock track.

Turn up your volume, close your eyes and set off on a magical journey…

  9. Oh, will you look at that!
    Unethical lawyers of a feather...

Bowie offered her money and work under the table. She declined because she didn't want to be indebted to him or put herself in jeopardy, she testified.

He also told her he "knows people I can do sex work for." He said he knew she was vulnerable, and that he would tell her boyfriend she did sex work in the past — something she'd previously confided to Bowie, the witness testified.

Makes you wonder what predator in his circle he was planning to connect her up with.

  12. CW: EIF, LSO, Shostakovich

This week is, for me at least, LSO week at EIF.

Like this review (the only one I can find, apart from a paywalled Scotsman review), I thought their performance of Shostakovich's Symphony 11 was tremendous - very powerful music, and tremendous playing all round.

And the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto 2 left me unmoved - almost too familiar.

    But the Shostakovich was remarkable!

  13. A few weeks ago I wrote about the (then) upcoming #LSO #Law #Society of #Ontario #Bencher election. How there was the Bencher Good Governance Coalition, who want to be *good* lawyers and promote EDI and outreach and inclusion and stuff.

vs. the Stop-SOP anti-woke, anti-EDI crew who hate being told they can't be racist -phobes.

Well, TL;DR - the good guys won. #EDI #woke goodness is back on the menu in Ontario legal circles. But the Stoppers are still scheming.
