Wikipedia defines LRTs as also known as the saga interaction pattern. In fintech, this applies to multi-step flows—like loan disbursement—where each service commits independently and compensations are triggered if any subsequent step fails.

‘We will not give up’: protesters pack Vilnius square in defence of the public broadcaster.
Around 30000 people gathered in Cathedral Square in Vilnius on Saturday in defence of free speech.
Demonstrators turned their anger on both the ruling Social Democrats and President Nausėda over proposed changes to the law governing Lithuania’s public broadcaster LRT.

ROAMING THE REGION VIA ION
As the birds start chirping, the sun shines longer and the gas prices continue to burn craters in our pockets. May I suggest ditching the four-wheeled guzzler for a more sustainable and, dare I say, entertaining way to explore Waterloo Region this spring?
Typically, I use two main forms of transportation when abroad: the heel-toe express and public transit. I’ve often contemplated why I don’t practice certain “travel traits” at home. Longer and warmer days seem like an opportune time to transform thought into action—and to pass the fun on to you.
The ION is many things to the Region’s residents—a controversial and costly undertaking, a novelty and a major artery of movement, to name a few. I propose that it is also a source of entertainment and enjoyment.
Beyond the obvious delight of people watching and general observation of the world around us, the ION offers users a free 3D art gallery, face-to-face social interaction (who would have ever thought that was novel) and countless day-trip itineraries.
Here is a four-stop trip to tickle your fancy the next time you’re itching to roam the region.
Logistics
If you’re not a regular ION user, consider using a Multi-Ride Fare Card for the day’s hop-on and hop-off journey. It’s a disposable electronic card on which you can load between five and 15 rides, and it includes transfers. Purchase them from onsite fare vending machines. Group fares can also be purchased and loaded onto EasyGo Fare Cards. If you already have an EasyGo Fare Card, fares are valid for 120 minutes.
Stop 1: The Departure Point AT Conestoga Mall
Before hopping on the train, take in the striking public art created by local artist and educator, Catherine Paleczny. “Continuum” is a multi-panel piece displaying the abundance and interconnectedness of natural and human resources in Waterloo Region. For the coders in the group, translate the binary code in the sky for your fellow travellers. Throughout your day, keep an eye out for the rest of the ION Public Art Passport installations.
Stop 2: Pastries and Coffee At Research and Technology Park
A friend and fellow traveller, Katie, insisted the next stop is a must. After a quick ride, hop off the ION and head to Maison Kookoo on Philip Street for “croissants and really lovely pastries”. Fuel for the day is a must, and there’s nothing like fresh baked goods to increase excitement, plus her past pastry recommendations have always been stellar.
Stop 3: Fresh Air, Festivals and Patio Jams At
Victoria ParkStretch your legs at Victoria Park. Watch out for geese, smile at strangers, enjoy a picnic or outdoor concert, maybe even hop on the swings. Acquaint yourself with the colourful pedestrian Gaukel Block in preparation for summer festivals, markets and more. If it’s a rainy day, head to AOK Craft Beer + Arcade, THEMUSEUM, or the Adventurers Guild Board Game & Video Game Café.
Stop 4: Soundtrack Surprise At
Fairview Park MallWalk across the street to the Beat Goes On. Browse the stacks of vinyl, DVDs, CDs and more. Add extra fun into the mix by gamifying the visit. Purchase an album for your travel companion(s) and surprise them with it on the return ride or go on a hunt to find the coolest cover art or oddest band name.
Return to Start
After travelling from one end of the ION to another, it’s time to head back to where you started. Ride straight through without stopping or continue the hop-on hop-off adventure. The journey is yours to decide.

Many months late but I did a pilgrimage to the Line 6 Finch West LRT.
Rode from Finch West to Humber and back (with a stop at Plaza Latina)
I liked the train, comfortable and mostly smooth.
But after Chow announcement that signal priority was active… I wonder if they had to roll it back? We had to stop at almost half the red lights. This line would be amazing if only it wasn’t stopping all-the-time.

On the same day as Open Hackerspace Day, Seattle has the big ceremonial opening of their 2 line. #seattle #transit #lrt
This is supposedly a world’s first: "the world’s first train on a floating bridge”.
The main improvement is that it links the two sides of the lake: Eastside, where Bellevue and Redmont are located is now connected to the rest of Seattle. -

Puzzled. Usually the LRT is packed at 9am. Did I miss the holiday? Has a work from home order been imposed? Or is this train going to stop halfway and throw us out lol
Anyway, due to the energy crisis I am taking public transport more. But that's pretty normal for me. I only drive around where I live and long distances I take public transport.
I am going to Penang today. Usually I will fly but I decided to take the train to Penang instead. I am concerned about flight delays and cancellations when I return.
On the whole, life is pretty normal in Malaysia, however. The govt has told civil servants to wfh, the amount of subsidised fuel a Malaysian can take had been reduced. Otherwise no rush or massive queus at the petrol station and none have run out.

ION EXTENSION DELAYED
The future of ION extension to the city of Cambridge remains uncertain.
The Region of Waterloo council originally approved the Light Rail Transit (LRT) ION system in 2009. It was to be a link across Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge, with a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) linking Kitchener and Cambridge.
Plans for Stage 2 ION, bringing the LRT transport system from Fairway Station in Kitchener through the urban centres of Cambridge to downtown Galt, were officially announced in June 2019, but the project has since been subject to significant delays.
A report to Cambridge City Council in 2023, estimated the expansion cost at $4.5 billion, a number that had nearly tripled since 2021. In June 2024, Matthew O’Neil, manager of Rapid Transit Coordination at the Region of Waterloo, said he expected construction to begin in 2032, seven years later than initial estimates.
On Apr. 3, Grand River Transit (GRT) revealed their ten-year business plan, which made no reference to Stage 2 ION expansion.
Councillors expressed frustration with the continued ambiguity surrounding the project. On The Mike Farwell Show on 570 NewsRadio Kitchener, former Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig was asked if Cambridge is being shortchanged on transit.
“Of course we are,” he said. “We don’t have [an] LRT, we don’t have a GO train, and we’re paying for the LRT in KW […] and we’re wondering when is ours going to come to the city of Cambridge?”
Stage 2 ION plans were thrown into further doubt on May 9, when Cambridge Mayor Jan Liggett endorsed the notion of rapid bus transit over LRT expansion. In a Cambridge council meeting, Liggett mentioned the option was raised by Waterloo Region council staff members that day.
“I know that’s earth-shattering news, but that was an open session of regional council today,” she said.
Liggett went on to say that the $4.5 billion cost of LRT expansion is not a realistic prospect.
“That’s an impossibility. We don’t have that much money in our budget in any given five-year span to put towards something like this,” she said.
The impact of the LRT in Waterloo and Kitchener has been positive. In 2023, $429 million in new building permits were issued in land along the LRT line. A growing percentage of the region’s population are reportedly moving to locations within a 10-minute walk of an LRT stop.
Cambridge councillors in favour of the expansion believe that it would have a significant impact on city rejuvenation.
“The ION expansion would have a positive impact on private investment and city rejuvenation. Every report has predicted this, and we have seen firsthand how this happened for Kitchener and Waterloo along the ION Stage one1,” Pam Wolf, Cambridge city councillor, said in a statement.
Former councillor Rob Deutschmann noted the ION expansion could attract $5-10 billion in private investments along the area, according to Cambridge Chamber of Commerce estimates.
The Region of Waterloo council have confirmed that nothing has been finalised yet, with the Initial Business Case for Stage 2 ION to be presented to Cambridge City council in November.
