Using my promo code you can take £30 off the full price of adult weekend tickets for Green Gathering Festival 2025.
The original off-grid festival takes place in Chepstow from 31st July to 3rd August 2025. It’s four days of low impact living in an area of outstanding beauty, with every corner bursting with music, creativity, natural abundance and community spirit.
There are intimate solar stages hosting up and coming acts, festival legends, DJs and spellbinding spoken word.
The original off-grid, non-profit festival: we’re powered by sun, wind, people and passion for change.
It’s an opportunity to share wisdom and skills; find friends old and new; weave, weld and tell stories; have a party – then wake up and put the world to rights.
It’s a festival whose impact lasts longer than a weekend.
I have 20 promo codes in total so it will be first come first serve for these.

👉 The Role of Cardio and Muscle Retention 🏃💪
—
🏃 Engaging in moderate cardio (2-3 sessions per week) supports fat loss without compromising muscle mass, especially when paired with strength training.
🏃 Too much cardio can lead to muscle breakdown, as the body may use muscle tissue for energy when in a caloric deficit.

@Moira hang out outside and wear mask indoors in crowded places. Being comfortable in a mask is a choice that can work for you (it has for me). Setting up regular calls with friends also makes a difference - as does texting. Staying in touch has many avenues now. taking walks, going on vintage shopping jaunts, taking your elder friends on walks, cooking for others , walking the (dog(s) (all can be done wearing mask - as you feel appropriate). #lowimpact small groups visits are lots of fun.

Sold mine about 20 yrs ago. It's even easier today than back then, I think. Things like uber & more deliveries (which are themselves an indirect form of public/shared #transport), and video meeting - image sharing.
But the availability of PT options is the most important! That lack of monthly payment & expenses is one of the reasons I was able to retire early. ~$130,000 saved so far.

Getting back to a more regular training schedule but it's hard to find the motivation when forbidden to work out as I'd like to. Calf is not hurting anymore but the range of motion is still limited.
And I can't do any high impact or high intensity exercises 😩. Patience is not my strongest point, I have to admit.
So today's workout was lower body rehab exercises + calisthenics tokyo week 3

Building another #RaisedMound #gardening bed. Been doing this for years.
#Hügelkultur (pronounced hoogleculture) is #German for #HillCulture . You grow crops on raised, earthen mound that consists of a foundation of logs/branches covered in layers of manure, compost & soil.

This sycamore snapped off in a storm in Nov 21. Well seasoned now. I'll take off the side branches for firewood. I only take what I can carry on my back. Some ex farm workers here wonder why I don't bring my 2.4 litre diesel engine 4x4 pick up and a petrol chainsaw. In the time I would have got organised and driven half a mile, I've had a lovely walk and some exercise. #LowImpact

@bsmall2 @Iragersh interesting about the wood. An earthship may not be "the thing" for your place in japan. but you could use many ideas to make a passive house or a high efficiency space (of an appropriate size). I mean renewable energy may be wind or water and not solar in your area. And water collection looks different everywhere too. Perhaps a composting toilet. And reducing your car use, like mentioned, and increasing things like walking and using a bicycle too. Having a #LowImpact on the earth is a social thing too, so in this case how we use what we use how we take from the earth and how we give back. how we use language to oppress others (even unintentionally).
I suggest finding the elders, whose people have lived in that place for generations. Ask them questions. Ask their opinion. They will be able to guide you to the best options for your place. they will know the #HistoryOfPlace better than any book and will be able to tell you what to think about and be cautious about. perhaps it is piled up logs in a modified earthship, and perhaps there is a design that hasn't been commercialized yet that would be better. -

for #lesswaste reasons I'm trying to live without hand cream and it sucks, tbh.
what do you all use instead of plastic packaged handcream? -

CW: waste reducing challenge + blogging
I didn't link every day to that but I have blogged everyday in 2019 now! about this "reduce your waste challenge" here: https://zerowastechef.com/2018/12/30/zero-waste-31-days/
It's really fun to follow the steps and think about it. it's all in german though, and the posts are here: https://distels.wordpress.com/

CW: nobuy + less waste combined
some people do a #nobuy year together, me too.
since I started going as #plasticfree as possible in november, I realized that living #lesswaste is totally doing away with shopping cravings.
1. 90% of what you liked to shop for comes in plastic anyway
2. you put so much conscious effort into getting stuff plasticfree and unpackaged that your consumption cravings are fulfilled as a side effect! -

so my wifi repeater gave up its ghost and I was prepared to be without internet in my room for the holidays, and buy a new one when the stores are open again. BUT not only did a dear friend offer me to repair the repeater, he also gave me his old one to use in the meantime! and I got it to work already!
the "repair" part of the #lesswaste idea is cool, but with electronics, I'm lost. but he said he enjoys getting electronics to work again. win!

because they will make you pay for more eco-friendly choices. they will push a mountain of unneccessary packaging on you. And they are so big that they create the impression that they have everything, and all the choices you have are at their supermarket.
it's not true, they don't have everything, and you have much more choices than between their products. it gets easier after a couple of weeks to know where to find everything!

CW: less waste diary
but not bringing bags/containers was only one mistake. the other things you need to do is planning where to go and when, in what order.
I find it increasingly beneficial that I need to plan my grocery shopping well, because it helps me *so much* not to buy stuff I don't absolutely need and make more conscious choices.
but on the other hand if you just leave the house in a hurry, go to a big supermarket and try to get everything there, you're fucked.

so he got the pears in plastic because he said he'd feel literally robbed otherwise, and I get that.
there were mushrooms in plastic trays wrapped in plastic, and more expensive mushrooms in cardboard trays wrapped in plastic, and more expensive unpackaged mushrooms, and he realized he had brought nothing to put the mushrooms in.
and then he also got a plastic bag of roasted peanuts 😭

yesterday my partner went grocery shopping and realized he had slipped back into just leaving the house for shopping. he had forgotten to bring bags/containers.
before the holidays, it's always stressful enough to go shopping at all.
he bought nearly everything in plastic. cucumbers were covered in plastic, and he was too stressed out to go to more than one store. pears: unpackaged: 3,60€/kg, in plastic: 0,99€/kg. 🙄
