I’m struggling to relate to this one but it got me thinking about #ThomYorke, #radiohead and #atomsforpeace. Through my 20s and 30s I listened to those bands relentlessly - you know how morose and dark they are… well unsurprisingly I was suicidally depressed so their music just personified me. Now I’m a bit better I’m not so fanatically attached to them. So I offer Unless.

Perhaps a better candidate for #tunetuesday #loveyouloveyounot is this sweet, sexy, heartfelt ballad. It was the theme tune for my relationship with Red. I thought she was the one. She set me on fire, reawakened me. We dreamt about the rest of our lives together. And then it all went to shit. I used to sing this song to her over FaceTime when we were literally oceans apart. It’s a beautiful song and a tough listen now.

#TuneTuesday is tough this week. 😅 As I've mentioned before "Baby Mine" from Dumbo will absolutely destroy me emotionally so I avoid it.
There was also a time after the break-up of a long relationship that I couldn't listen to *any* Concrete Blonde, much less one song. It was "our" band, y'know? Thankfully that madness has passed and I happily listen to them again.

I don't know what ruined Ain't No Sunshine for me - maybe it was American Idol. Anyway, I can barely even tolerate the Bill Withers version. We don't need more versions of this song.

A month before my first marriage, I took my fiancée to see the Val Kilmer Batman movie. (This was probably a mistake).
Roughly a year and a half later, we were still sharing a studio apt. but headed for divorce. She had fallen for a guy who looked like Seal and started playing “Kiss From A Rose” fifty thousand times a day.
If you've never been slowly driven mad by a romantic power ballad, I don't recommend it.

This week's Tune Tuesday has a theme of Love You, Love You Not - songs you really love, but cannot bear to listen to.
The answer is literally anything from the Bloodhound Gang from the late 90s / early 2000s. The music is catchy earworms, but so filthy, homophobic, and sexist in ways I didn't notice as a teenager around then that while I enjoy the music when I happen to hear it, I just can't anymore.

So, today's #TuneTuesday theme is #LoveYouLoveYouNot – songs you love but can't bear to listen to.
I struggled a bit with this one, but seeing a few posts already I realised a sad theme was developing. For me it’s pretty much any song by Amy Winehouse. Obvious reasons. I had been enamored by Amy since seeing her debut on Jools Holland and hated watching her decline. I find it very difficult to listen to anything by her now. I feel a weird mixture of anger at losing a great talent, and sorrow for what she went through. Anyway, I have to pick one and it’s You Know I’m No Good from Back To Black.

Unfortunately, When You Sleep - which is a gorgeous song - transports me so vividly back to an intense period of my life, I can't listen to it unless I *want* my heart to hurt, and that's put me off exploring the rest of their discography :-/
