Five years ago this morning, my brave, amazing Mom's ~25-year, 5-time battle with cancer ended, exactly 1 month before her 72nd birthday, and exactly 1 month after my wonderful Grandma Vivian Stiff passed away. Both missed so much, and these 5 years haven't been fun without you.

She shares the heat lamp
with her bearded dragon brother,
two unlikely souls
basking in warmth and stillness
keeping me company.

I bring her her water bowl
when she can’t get up.
Support her body
as she walks to the food bowl
or the litter box.
Clean her wounds with saline,
give her daily meds,
and whisper love into her fur.

I surround her with crystals,
Speak words of thanks,
thinking thoughts of healing.
Remembering the love and laughs
while I am breaking and holding,
mourning and loving,
