A fine day out at Eumundi! It was my first event of this kind and I met some lovely authors. I brought up a few of my Gaelic dictionaries as a talking point, and they went down pretty well.

I'm in Eumundi for the writers festival 🔥
I've got my Pride Ibis pin on (created by Jesse Irwin Art) and am having a quick sit down before my Meet the Authors event starts at 1.30pm. A curious noisy minor decided to join me.

Q: You have described this book as a ‘trans boy’s take on masculinity’ in an Instagram post. As promoting healthy masculinity is a much-discussed subject right now, what insights does Maeve have that are important for young readers to hear?

Abair co-labhairt! What a conference! Discussions on AI use in an age where it's an inbuilt feature of most software, and on cultural appropriation and community consultation. And opportunities to meet new people and build our own writerly connections.
I was so grateful to get the chance to participate in the CYA Success Panel.
Thank you CYA for the past 21 years you've given the Brisbane Meanjin community.

How beautiful is Bulimba on a blue sky Brisbane Meanjin day? It was wonderful to step into Riverbend Books today, with its wonderful community vibe; every time I pass by, there seems to be a bookish event happening, including today! It's a thrill to find my books on the shelves of such a vibrant space.

One of the coolest things about having a novel come out is the push it gives you to explore bookshops outside of your usual haunts. Today saw me popping into Stones Corner for the first time in literal decades to visit Books@Stones, where I was thrilled to spot The Boy Maeve on a display table!

I headed north today to visit the wonderful Quick Brown Fox Bookshop 🦊
Thank you to Theresa for your warm welcome and the lovely map of Brisbane bookshops you gave me! I've been ticking them off day by day!

The Boy Maeve spotted at The Hobart Book Shop!
I've never visited Hobart without popping into The Hobart Bookshop at least once (and usually leaving with at least one book) and so while I'm not there to see it in person, it's quite the buzz to hear that The Boy Maeve is currently sitting in a rather prominent position in their YA section!

Spotted in Dymocks Melbourne by my father 👀
As a kid, I spent countless hours exploring Dymocks bookstores, often honing in on these staff recommendations. What a hoot to see one referencing The Boy Maeve!! Thank you to Jennifer for your wonderful enthusiasm for the book.

After an awesome launch at The Little Bookroom and despite the rain, I wanted to visit some of Melbourne Naarm's other bookstores before heading home.
Stop 1: Readings Kids, where I had a warm welcome.
Stop 2: Dymocks Melbourne, where The Boy Maeve is on the pride shelf!
Stop 3: QBD Emporium
Final stop: Hares & Hyenas, where it was such a thrill to find my book in this iconic queer bookshop.
Thank you Naarm! It's been wet but awesome!

Despite the pelting rain and winds worthy of a marine weather warning, the Melbourne launch of The Boy Maeve went ahead at The Little Bookroom and it was wonderful! My mother had to duck out due to a cold, but my father (who took these photos) was ready to jump in and present with me in her stead - thanks Dad!
Thank you to Michael and Alison for hosting and thank you to everyone who braved the weather to come along! Ceud mìle taing!

In Naarm Melbourne for the launch of The Boy Maeve at The Little Bookroom TONIGHT at 6pm!
The oranges and lemons are out and the winter cold wet is well and truly here. Having re-aclimatised to Brisbane over the past few months, it's a bit of a shock to the system. But the oranges taste delicious.

It turns out bookshops are happy to have you pop in and sign books! So I got a train to Wynyard Station and began to walk to Newtown, popping into bookshops en route.
First it was Dymocks Sydney - Dymocks was one of my favourite bookstores back when I was a kid.
Second Kinokuniya - where I used to spend a silly amount of my earnings back when I was working in the Sydney CBD.
