#KDrama #LoveNextDoor was stupidly overlong - a runtime of 21.3 hours for a story that should have been 12-14 hours TOPS.
But I still ended up bumping it from 7/10 to 7.25 because I'm a sucker for corny meta almost as much as I am for REALLY dreamy OTPs (and this OTP was literally stellar)
This sequence was subtle as a sledgehammer but it was fun, and of course referencing the iconic legend of #KDrama romcoms never hurts.

On my paternal grandmother's side, my ancestors were Indian. India is justly famous (among other things) for giving the world "zero" . Perhaps that's why episodes 8-12 of #KDrama #LoveNextDoor struck a chord:
Like those Indian mathematicians of antiquity, they added nothing to the world.

In #JDrama there is often an SP, a single episode special released a year or so after the Drama ended, wrapping up the story or adding a short sequel. Watching the delightful and delectable Jung So Min in #KDrama #LoveNextDoor makes me hope that if #Arsenal pulls off an unlikely Premiership this year, we could get an SP for #BecauseItsMyFirstLife,, so her character and Lee Min Ki's can reunite in celebration of the their beloved Arsenal's win.

The OTP in #KDrama #LoveNextDoor is the only reason I'm still FFing through it, but since they got together, the ML's behaviour has often been creepily controlling and possessive. Two of the most egregious examples
Taking her personal confidential medical files out of an envelope and reading them, then attacking HER for not telling him, no apology for his behaviour.
Entering her in cooking competition without her knowledge.
In both cases, were the tables turned, he'd have gone ballistic

Over the last year or so, my wife and I have been watching a lot of French TV. Subbed, of course, but it's given me hope that all that exposure was reviving my rusty French comprehension. There have been several occasions when I was able to follow brief conversations on screen when not even looking at the screen.
Sadly any thought that my French aural comprehension was improving was shattered by Jung Hae IIn in #KDrama #LoveNextDoor - I did not even realise it WAS French. 🤦♂️ -
With life-threatening illness for the FL and looming financial ruin for the ML, as I zip through ep 11 of #KDrama #LoveNextDoor I realise that I simply MUST stick it out (on FF, ofc) to see if either the White Truck of Doom or Noble Idiocy raise their tropy heads. With the pointless ex, that would give me a full house of 'keep 'em apart' clichés

I enjoyed watching the series as it unfolded but it was certainly short on plot in some sections. A lot of favourite actors, though! I loved their interview on Salon Drip: so fun to watch!

15-Feb : Most beautiful location?For this year's dramas:
"Queen of Tears" has some of the most beautiful sets - the home, the department store, the small town, the aquarium, but the location shots in Germany were gorgeous - not only the buildings & monuments, but the field of flowers.
As for gorgeous locations within S. Korea, I think "Love Next Door" did a great job - the temple, the neighborhoods, the onggi pots all provided beautiful backdrops.

#Day17 Best actor of 2024 (male)
For me, 2024 was the year of #JungHaeIn I enjoyed his character in #LoveNextDoor and then watched #SomethingInTheRain #OneSpringNight and #Snowdrop. I watched #DP last year but still feel like that was his best acting. -

Day 9: A Drama from a year other than 2024
Something in the Rain (2018)
I became slightly fascinated with #JungHaeIn and his acting after watching him in #LoveNextDoor
One of my favourite shows starring him that I watched this year was #SomthingInTheRain The first half was a funny and sexy noona romance and then the second half was the fight for the couple to overcome obstacles.
I'd still say that DP was Jung Hae-in's best work. -

This interview of the leads is SO much fun! I've already watched it twice and I'm tempted to watch it again. It's so interesting that the 3 main leads decided in advance to force themselves to use banmal (informal speech) with each other prior to starting the shoot, so that they'd be more believable as lifelong friends.

CW: re: Love Next Door ep. 9

All of the characters are quite delightful. I especially appreciate the story arcs and character development of all of the parents in the neighbourhood!

Love Next Door
(2024 - Netflix 16 1:20 eps)A neighborhood friend moved abroad for several years, but then quit her job & returned to Korea. She meets her old friend again & they resume their old bickering habit.
The directing is amazing, frequently one scene cuts to a contrasting one (fighting/loving, sad/happy, rich/poor) or parallel one (between couples, in time) - extremely well done. The acting is stellar. The 2nd couple is sweet & funny & the children are *amazing* actors. The parents' friendships & personal paths are interesting & enrich the story.
Symbolism again plays a big role. The FL's name means pomegranate & she gives the ML a pom tree as a gift. The tree foreshadows events that take place. The ML's name means victory & filial duty which fits his character well. Food plays a big role & I think even the onggi pots we learn about have a deeper meaning.

There was an excellent explainer for the title on Instagram. @EllenInEdmonton shared this link with me:

CW: re: “Love Next Door” ep. 16
@KoreanPassion
I LOVED that Mo-Eum went to the South Pole, achieving her dreams, AND her sweetie and his daughter lived happily with her mom while that happened.
And I loved #LoveNextDoor, such a nice tale of folks really learning to communicate with and lean on each other to get through life's transitions and troubles.

CW: “Love Next Door” ep. 16
«.... and all the protagonists lived happily ever after with their families and friends.»
This could be an adaptation of classic fairy tale endings for the #Kdrama #LoveNextDoor. A beautiful and super positive ending for all the protagonists, including Mo-eum 😍, although she went to the South Pole. 😥
And .. yes, I *liked* “Love Next Door” very much!

“The truth” by Jung Hae In (정해인), #Kdrama #LoveNextDoor OST Part 7.
And don’t forget that this weekend, the last two episodes, 15 & 16, are released on #Netflix! What will happen to Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu? And what about the cute Mo-eum!?
