Vor kurzem war eine größere Boomer Debatte hier auf Mastodon an der ich mich beteiligt habe.
Ich bin begeistert, dass das hier möglich ist, das Bemühen ein Argument bei zu tragen war oft erkennbar, überzeugen statt übertrumpfen - ziemlich großartig.

Natürlich gabs auch Rhetorikartisten, die die Debatte für doof erklärt, für überflüssig oder tot gelabled haben und es gab auch Entgleisungen aber insgesamt eine tolle kontrovers geführte Diskussion.

Danke Mastodon, danke an die die dabei waren.

Ich muss einfach mal loswerden, dass ich mich bisher auf keiner Social Media Plattform so wohl gefühlt hab, wie hier. Hier fühlt es sich wenig synthetisch an, es gibt viel mehr Interaktion und viel weniger Selbstdarsteller.

I have to tell you, I'm new in #Mastodon. I'm a month old baby, or less.
I tried Facebook back in...2000 and litle, Instagram in 2012 or 2016, dont know for sure, twitter... even X. Made the accounts and visited once or twice...it never felt like .... me...
I'm really greatfull for this platform. It feels real.
There's humor that it's very needed these days. Civilised conversations, solidarity, discussions based on facts (that are so important). And most of all good people who care. People from all over the world, people that I feel very connected with, because of our intrinsically will to be better for themselves and others and for the future of the planet. Western values are not dead and even if you are not my neighbours in my town. You are in my planet..

With all the crazy in the world — and especially social media — let me just give a moment of thanks for the existence of Mastodon and the Fediverse and you wonderful people. This continues to remain a calmer, cozier park in the middle of the crazy and I absolutely appreciate it.

And yes, it harks back to The Early Days of the Internet, which — shitty connectivity and processing power aside — was fun, encouraging, exciting, supportive, and delightful.

Every time there is negative news about #Twitter, #Facebook, or #LinkedIn, I notice an influx of posts on #Mastodon

If Mastodon is a safe harbor from all the crap the mega-corporate social networks dump on us, why do we keep coming back to these negative media?

Spend more time on Mastodon, post more. You'll love it as much as I do.

M is one of those positive places where I feel good hanging out with the most intelligent people in the world, without any negativity

You know what I like (no, what I love) about being on Mastodon?

No catfish. No scammers. No MLM spam. No advertising. No Amazon job opportunities.

It feels so much more wholesome over here. It’s like getting out of a toxic relationship and finding a non-abusive partner. It feels safe. I feel like if someone does put of a toot with how to buy their product it’s genuine and it’s like a village marketplace not a big city shopping centre.

It’s nice to be able to breath.

Mastodon infrastructure Is MUCH more highly developed and nuanced. This is a real tool, what we have here. A real sociotechnical tool.

Three Good Things, Sunday edition:

1. This platform. Specifically, how it has flexed to accommodate the influx. And managed to maintain its idiosyncratic sense of playfulness that was initially part of its attraction to me. Filters help!
2. That we did not get 5’ of snow Iike upstate NY did. It’s so cold all of a sudden (with the wind chill) that I could imagine it. I’ll take clear skies! NJ is beautiful in this season.
3. That I had a good writing stretch today, interwoven with research, family and other plans. 10 days left of Nanowrimo and I think I’ll get the basic story hammered out (novel number 3 in trilogy).
