    Louise Bourgeois - Malerin, Skulptur
    (1911 - 2010)

    Femme Maison

  6. I often share "on this day" photos on Instagram and thought I'd share one from this day in 2018 here on Mastodon as well because I had a feeling you were all lacking in some culture right about now. This is Maman outside the Guggenheim, Bilbao. We don't like spiders but we love sculptures like this and we like architecture and modern art too which is why we were there visiting the museum.

  7. Today's #FotoVorschlag is "Mehr als 4 Beine" (more than 4 legs)

I wish we'd had nicer weather to present Maman by Louise Bourgeois in better light when we visited the Guggenheim, Bilbao in 2018. Even my arachnophobic wife thought she was lovely, though.

  12. In Focus • Louise Bourgeois • ‘I look inside and my model is really myself’

Featuring a motif that Bourgeois developed over five decades, ‘Woman with Packages’ (1987–1993) reflects her deeply personal and all-encompassing approach to sculpture.

  13. Dia Beacon visit

We visited Dia Beacon for the first time, with B. Great place. This is Dan Flavin’s untitled (to the real Dan Hill) 1b from 1978. B’s favorite was Louise Bourgeois’s spider, I think, or maybe Arena by Rita McBride. It was fun stumbling across Occasional Papers’ Explorer in the book shop.

  18. “The spider is a repairer. If you bash into the web of a spider, she doesn’t get mad. She weaves and repairs it.” —Louise Bourgeois

Happy birthday to #LouiseBourgeois born on this day in Paris. This work is in the @museoguggenheim.

  25. Persevering with my #MidweekMuseum recommendation until I forget or run out, here's the #Guggenheim #Museum in #Bilbao, #Spain. You can appreciate the #FrankGehry #architecture even if you don't like the #ModernArt the building houses, but we loved both. You're only allowed to take photos inside the entrance hall, but outside I've got some shots of artworks by #AnishKapoor, #JeffKoons, and, of course, #Maman by #LouiseBourgeois.

    Maman, by Louise Bourgeois.
Mori Tower, Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, Japan. June 2013.

I have been lucky to visit Japan 6 or 7 times. I have also been lucky to see “Maman” at the foot of the Mori Tower twice, and at the foot of the Bilbao Guggenheim museum twice, too where the same statue is installed.
