  1. Save Lough Neagh Film Festival And Conference

Oxford Island, Saturday, May 9 at 09:00 AM GMT+1

"ANNOUNCING THE SAVE LOUGH NEAGH FILM FESTIVAL & CONFERENCE
9am Sat-Sun 9-10 May 2026, the weekend before the March for Lough Neagh

Register for a free ticket in our bio or saveloughneagh.com

The Lough, is dying before our eyes. Decades of mismanagement, political negligence, pollution and commercial extraction of its resources have left Lough Neagh blighted by a pestilence of blue-green algae, choking the life out of the Lough and putting it at risk of total ecosystem collapse.

Following the success of our exhibition ‘Natures Revolt’ which sought to blend art and traditions of resistance, the Save Lough Neagh campaign are organising this follow up event, to bring our community together for a two day festival of eco-socialism, resistance to extraction and exploitation, and artistic expression - to show collectively what Lough Neagh means to us all, and to galvanise the many thousands of people who have been impacted by this crisis. Acting together, we have the power to push for system change, secure a future for Lough Neagh, and demand accountability from those who have plundered it and profiteered from its destruction.

So come down to the festival for some of our film screenings, radical talks and panel discussions, or to hear some great music from local campaigners who have been staunch planet defenders for many years.

    No to pollution
    No to profiteering
    No to political negligence

  2. Lough Neagh, a festering sore on Northern Ireland and the source for drinking water for many people. The putrid lough has been neglected and exploited for many many years (hello ‘Lord’ Shaftesbury) and successive administrations have failed to act. How long do people need to wait?

In-depth look into the problems on #LoughNeagh, including the history of pollution there. It's infuriating to see how this could have been avoided if not for greed and stupidity.

  8. While visiting Northern Ireland in July, I tuned into a radio show about the poisoning of Lough Neagh, Ireland's largest lake. This YouTube video sums up how it all happened.

  9. Lough Neagh: Toxic algae potentially waking again

Louise Cullen - BBC NI agriculture and environment correspondent

    March 7, 2024

"Toxic blue-green #algae in #LoughNeagh has potentially begun to wake up again already, with two confirmed reports since the start of 2024.

"Last summer, it brought the largest freshwater lake in these islands to the headlines.

"The algae also brought misery to those who live and work around and on the lough."

  10. Like the flip of a switch, it’s gone: has the ecosystem of the UK’s largest lake collapsed? theguardian.com/environment/20

#LoughNeagh’s flies were seen as a nuisance. Now their sudden disappearance is a startling omen for a lake that supplies 40% of #NorthernIreland’s water... The loss of these #KeystoneSpecies, alongside sharp reductions of others, the spread of #InvasiveSpecies, and a long-term deterioration in water quality, indicates deep trouble across the lough’s entire ecology."
