  1. Update. From 670 #OpenAccess journals published in #Africa, "only 57 journals allow publication in languages other than English [#LOTE]. From these journals, between 2010 and 2020, only 26 articles appeared in an African language. The Google Scholar site reports the highest citation for articles written in the aforementioned African languages is one."

  2. That thing you *want* to do?

❝Never push it aside, even if you can only devote 15 minutes to it. There’s always time when it’s something you love.❞

I like what I’m #learning on Domestika. Their courses are guided explorations of topics presented by people carefully chosen for their mastery in each area. Great value even when not on special. Many courses are #LOTE, with subtitles.

  3. Heute ist #WelttagDesBuches #WorldBookDay und ich teile die vier Bücher, die bisher meine top Leseerlebnisse 2023 waren.
It’s #WorldBookDay , and I’m sharing the four books read so far in 2023 I liked best.
#Lote by Shola von Reinhold . A queer love story cum campus novel cum novel of ideas . It’s trying to recover and reclaim glam, shininess, opaqueness, the occult, queerness, Blackness, and shabbiness as a modernist aesthetic, and it’s a beautiful, touching hommage to queer modernists.

  4. The first book I read in 2023 was #LOTE by #SholaVonReinhold , and this almost perfect debut novel set the bar very high for the rest of my year in reading. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  5. „But even the Greeks must at one point have realised the importance of ornament. They called the universe “kosmos”, meaning decoration, surface, ornament: something cosmetic. Like make-up. Like lipstick! Like rouge. The cosmos is fundamentally blusher. But then the Greeks probably got the idea from somewhere else. They could never stick to it. Which ruined ornament for everyone. Plato was quite the basher of ornamentalists.“ — #LOTE again being Smart & funny & charming .

  6. Another quote from #LOTE :
“This would have been admirable, except that when they were not discussing the usual things, they liked to speak at great length about bikes, a subject which I found perhaps almost as dull as the Lesser Concepts of Garreaux.” - among other things it is a very accurate parody of certain white #academia circles around 2015ff.

  7. “ Being born in a body that’s apparently historically impermissible, however, only meant I was not as prone to those traps that lie in wait for Arcadians—the various and insidious forms of history-worship and past-lust.” – this is from #Lote by Shola von Reinhold, which is the first book I started 2023, inspired by the lovely people of the onebrightbook.com/ #Podcast. It will be discussed in their January episode. I’m only some pages in & really intrigued. This will be fun. #Queer #black

Piccolo progetto di scrittura, con applicazione di standard di lettura per ipovedenti (il mio primo esperimento,a dire il vero).

Un po' di svago, senza impegno, pochi minuti di lettura a ogni capitolo.
