@steve They also came in the form of phone calls. Moorie would call after 11 pm most nights that I worked as Night News Editor at The Miami Herald. I typically set the phone down and let him rant -- often more than 30 minutes -- until I suspect he fell asleep.

After that the hate mail came en-masse in the form of story commenting. The newsrooms wanted nothing to do with it. That was the beginning of newspapers forfeiting interactive community. conversation. .
