HELP #yeg!! we found a kitten in our garden. it turns out it must have been abandoned in the alley this morning, and then we heard it in the shrubs ~1hr ago.
we called 311 but they were NOT helpful. The ACCC apparently only does intake for strays from OUTSIDE #Edmonton and you need an appointment?? we don't know what to do, we already have three cats and cannot add a fourth.
spouse is currently taking it to a vet to check for chip, but beyond that we're lost :( boost appreciated!! #lostCat

The neighbor had recently sold her house, so I could see Lily entering when the dogs weren't there, but then hiding when they came back. And *stuck* hiding.
That didn't turn out to be the case, but it could be in another circumstance.
Don't rule *anything* out.
The single best thing we did was buy Kim Freeman's Book/Video on finding a lost cat and take notes.

As an example, early on in Lily's life with us, she'd run into the bathroom cabinet and hide in a drawer when she was in a "just can't even" situation. She'd open the door, then enter the drawer from the side.
I have several tweets where I was in the bathroom and saw her do that. So, when we searched a neighbor's house (last known place she was seen), I made sure to look in (and behind) all the bathroom cabinets in particular.

The most important thing: microchip your cat.
The second most important thing: make sure your microchip registry information is complete and current. (In the US, there are way too many registries, so if you use more than one, update them all.)
Third: Never give up. Never surrender. Or, as Kim Freeman (lostcatfinder.com) says: "Owners giving up kills more cats than coyotes.”
It is far, far more likely that your cat is stuck somewhere they cannot get out of.

Given the hunt for #LilyTheCat I want to go cover strategies for searching for a lost *outdoor* cat.
Eight possible things that happened:
1. Trapped - check garages, sheds, under decks, etc.
2. "Rescued" - force adopted
3. Stolen - rare except purebreds
4. Injured and hiding or sick and hiding
5. Killed
6. Displaced (by dog, raccoon, coyote, etc.)
7. Removed (intentional)
8. Transported (accidental) - your cat wound up in a car (or piece of furniture) that moved.1/n

An appeal has been made to find the owners of an unchipped three-legged tortoiseshell/calico cat found at the service station Aire des Haras au Sap André 61, on the A28 in Normandy, France.
It's believed they're British & travelling in a camper van in July '23.
