  1. #China’s #Loongson launches homegrown 16-core server #CPU built on #LoongArch architecture — 40W chip with DDR4 ECC and 32 PCIe lanes targets cheap SMB file, database, and web #servers
Support for China’s local software and hardware ecosystem also appears to be a selling point
Unlike the 36C000, which Loongson says matches Intel’s Xeon, company is positioning #3C3000 as a low-cost, high-performance #server CPU for customers that need general-purpose compute rather than AI

  2. Weird new computer arrived. While it looks like a regular mini-PC it has a Loongson 3A6000 CPU with 4 cores, 8 threads and a MIPS derived instruction set architecture (ISA). The aim is to install Chimera Linux on it, and have it be a test bed for building packages, and testing software compatibility. Depending on power consumption I might give it some server duties too.

  3. I have gotten my #Loongson 3a5000 to at least POST and make video. I'll have to get a Linux install together to run on it. Anyone know how to make the speaker stop shrieking during the UEFI shell? #loongarch

  4. #LoongArch Promoted To Being An Official Architecture For #Debian14
Two years and a few months after LoongArch 64-bit "Loong64" was added to Debian Ports, it's now been promoted to being an official architecture for #Debian #Linux.
LoongArch is the #CPU architecture developed by #Loongson in #China and inspired by #MIPS and #RISCVphoronix.com/news/Debian-Loong

  5. The Orange Pi Nova is an upcoming single-board PC with a Loongson 2K3000 processor, up to 32GB of DDR4 memory, 2.5 GbE and Gigabit Ethernet, and plenty of other I/O. It'll most likely be a China-only product. linuxgizmos.com/orange-pi-nova

  6. #AlpineLinux 3.21: Lean, mean, and #LoongArch-ready
Alpine #Linux follows closely upon the release of a new #LTS kernel version: 6.12
Alpine 3.21 has a raft of other updates along with the kernel: updated development tools including .NET 9, and new desktops including KDE Plasma 6.2, LXQt 2.1, and GNOME 47
The version before this one, Alpine 3.20, added #RISCV back in May. Now, it gains another: the quite #MIPS-like Chinese #Loongson
