Today I had to think of the people who volunteer to get people to and from the non-emergency medical care they need through the Palo Alto Airport, which is near Stanford University Medical Center and other providers.

In recent years, I've learned that these "angel flights" are frequent, averaging nearly one a day at Palo Alto Airport.

Also, Stanford's trauma center Life Flight helicopter refuels at Palo Alto Airport.

I've been seeing a lot of distressing news lately.

Fortunately, I grew up with Fred Rogers on TV, and today I see a lot of helpers around me, and seeing them--and their willingness to show up and be seen--that gives me hope.

"You know, my mother used to say--long time ago, whenever there would be any really cat--catastrophe that was on the--in the movies or or on the air, she would say, 'Always look for the helpers.'

There were--there will always be helpers, you know, even just on the sidelines.

That's why I think that if news programs could make a conscious effort of showing rescue teams--of--of showing who medical people--anybody who is coming into a place where there's a tragedy to be--to be sure that they include that because if you look for the helpers you'll know that there's hope."

Got crafty today and by way of wizardry with cardboard, a cutter, and hot glue I made some things out of what I had lying around because I didn't have moolah for new display units for my upcoming addition to my vending table: A mutual aid distro mini table!

Over the time called Thanksgiving (Truthsgivingl Day of Remembrance) in the U.S., I learned that one particular family of Afghani refugees, having been smuggled into Pakistan and under constant threat of being discovered and deported, arrived safely in Canada after 2 days of travel. This is a family that has received funds and support from several #Quaker communities and households like ours in Canada and the U.S., thanks to ties with a Quaker high school #gratitude #LookForTheHelpers @quakers

That's a really good point: others who see the sign might develop a bit more of an understanding of neurodiversity too.

#LookForTheHelpers is a terrific way of thinking. And you mean THE Mr Rogers was your neighbour? That's a very cool connection.

@ClaireCopperman @lisamelton @actuallyautistic My suspicion is that they are rarely asked to do any of these things - and that’s fine. Such a strong stance is a public service for education and as example for the community and world at large.

Mr. Rogers, truly my neighbor who lived a mile from me, always said “look for the helpers.” I’m happy to know about these helpers in Bath UK where a family member now lives. #LookForTheHelpers

#today started with a man in our neighborhood breaking down in tears because of how terribly his employer is treating him, and financial hardship he's suffering as a result.

Today ended with a lot of our neighbours donating grocery items and money to give him a huge care package with basic items as well as some nice treats for him and his son.

And I don't live in a well off neighborhood. People are awesome.

We're also going to sort out his employment situation. Enough is enough.

The gloves are officially off.
