  1. From @onelife_livedwell on IG: Interoception is your body’s ability to sense what’s happening on the inside. In athletes, we call this body awareness, but in chronic conditions, it’s too often labeled anxiety.

“Sloan’s study similarly found higher rates of healthcare avoidance and of underreporting symptoms “from distrust and fear that symptoms would be disbelieved and misattributed again,” the researchers wrote.”

“The problematic conversations that transpire between clinicians and patients often involve specific words and phrases—termed the “never-words [6]”—that can leave patients feeling upset, angry, fearful, confused, and demoralized”

“Focus on what is within your control

Many aspects of an incurable chronic illness are outside your control, and that can feel overwhelming. Find the things that are within your control and try to focus on those. (contd)”

  7. Hi Ren
I may have posted this b4 but just shakes me when I hear it. Amazing piece of great art.

But so much existential power. (Sorry, another edit, absolutely fucking brilliant lyrics.)

  8. The 'economically inactive' count is declining in all categories except the long term sick...

there seems to be a slow nett return of retirees to the workforce, along while carers & others continue to return to work.

Other groups are also seeming to be finding work, but the numbers who are out of work due to #longtermillness continues t climb.

Whatever we might think about the designation 'economically inactive', this figure shows the impact of the #NHScrisis pretty clearly

  9. Are #Tories interested in #economicdevelopment?

Well, given their defunding of the #NHS & its now very clear effects on #longtermillness, costing the UK economy over £40bn a year in lost #productivity & economic activity, I think we can safely say they are not!... at least not when there is money to be made for their private sector chums (here in #healthcare).

Whatever its significant personal costs, long term sickness is emblematic of the UK's dysfunctional Govt.

  10. Why is #JeremyHunt keen to focus on trying to get the over-50s to 'unretire'?

Well, its a useful distraction from the real problems which are #longtermillness (aggravated by the #NHScrisis) and the costs of #childcare... both issues that the Govt. could do something about but chooses not to... its just another bit of declaratory politics that (following Polly Toynbee's article, just posted) emphasis the mendacity at the heart of UK politics!

“Use Others to Support You as a #Caregiver

There is a “rings of trauma theory” & it says that you draw a circle with whoever has the trauma in the center, & you make degrees (or people) connected to the trauma going outward. Please “support in” & “dump out””

“Take Care of Yourself and Have a Life Outside of Caregiving

Please don’t make #caretaking your whole life. Make sure that you are doing the things that are restorative to you, and that make your life rewarding outside of me. And don’t feel guilty doing them! You deserve to have an identity outside of this illness, and you will be a better caregiver to me if you take care of yourself”

“If you’re one of the many people with chronic health problems who don’t look sick, the burden is on you to make your condition “visible.” If you don’t take this pre-emptive action, people’s expectations of you may be way out of line with what you can handle”
