  1. Excellent March road bike ride yesterday.

7 of us rode around Monterey CA yesterday and then out and back from Fisherman’s Wharf along the coast to the Lone Cypress just off of 17 Mile Drive not far from Pebble Beach. It’s one of my favorite rides along one of California’s many beautiful coastlines with rocky shores, mostly windy, and rough surf.

17 Mile Drive is actually a loop pretty much around the Del Monte Forest. The section most people know about is the coastal route we rode along that stretches from the Spanish Bay resort in the north down to Pebble Beach in the south.

Getting to the Lone Cypress is like a gift. You ride around a corner and there it is. Pretty much as seen here.

A day and bike ride like that is what life should be about. Getting out in nature, surrounded in beauty, breathing fresh air, and challenging yourself a bit with exercise along with friends. When we forget that, is when we get lost.

  2. Bike riding in Monterey and Pebble Beach

We did a very nice tri-club bike ride on Sunday starting in Monterey (CA) heading south along the coast past Pacific Grove and into the Pebble Beach area along 17 Mile Drive and turning around at the iconic Lone Cypress as seen in the photo.

This part of the CA coast is spectacular with its rocky beaches intermixed with white sand. Along the route you pass two of the famous Pebble Beach golf courses, Spyglass Hill and Spanish Bay. And of course there are the houses. You’re either awed or appalled at their Hurst Castle-like gaudy excessiveness.
