  1. I hate #loglines: Here's mine for my #TV #drama series called Tyler's War

The Peasants' Revolt of 1381 lasted a month, the rebels' leader was killed, and it failed as a social revolution; in 2035, history is repeating itself, as a young woman sets out to hold power to account.

Feels clunky... any thoughts anyone? Would you watch it etc etc etc?

  6. @dejackson @giantspecks As long as we're sharing ...

Here's the one I finally hammered together for DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE:

Made destitute by her double-crossing husband, a glamorous identity thief and her incestuously devoted son must outmaneuver the authorities while swindling an elderly New York socialite.

  11. Tell Bard your logline and Bard will tell you a story.

It won't be perfect but it may have angles you hadn't thought of.

Does Bard's parallel the one you had in mind? If not, revising the prompt may bring it in line.

    Is this a reasonable test?

  13. There once was a logline so fine,
It told the whole story in time.
    It had a hero,
    A goal to pursue,
And a conflict that made it sublime.

  15. @jlynnreed My feet are the same everywhere I go, but I try to shoe them according to the terrain and occasion. And I've heard it said* that a script might use various #loglines, depending on the audience or purpose.

Would you agree that a producer being queried needs something different than—for example—the final consumer?

I imagine what's daunting to many #screenwriters is the idea they have to pack everything into one tiny package, rather than several simpler ones.

    *I said it.

  17. Okay, #screenwriter, I'd like to open a dialogue on #loglines theory (not structure):

    What's your opinion on scope?
Distill the whole story? All but the ending?

My view is that it need only summarize the elements essential to Act 1. Tell me why/if that's wrong.

Thanks in advance for your level-headed convo.

And to the recents, welcome aboard!

  19. @counselorcarl
I've written many but can't say that any were effective. It's a craft I'm still studying.
My current (in its ~400th draft) I'm modeling after this:

  20. Loglines:

I enjoy the challenge, and feel I have pretty good grasp on what they need—for features and pilots, that is.

But I could use help understanding how they might differ for series.

    Do you have any guidance?
