Anyways, it looks like Sofabaton is the current leader in the configurable universal remote space, so future plans may be to get one of those, or just bite the bullet and show my family how to use three different remotes. (To be fair, the Apple TV remote is configurable enough that it can *almost* do everything needed on its own. But not quite.) #logitech #enshittification #ewaste #logitechharmony

I picked up a cheap used Logitech Harmony Elite remote to add to our Harmony Home system, and I am once again livid that the Harmony ecosystem was abandoned. The Elite is a *phenomenal* piece of hardware. It is ergonomic, friendly, and solidly built. IT HAS HAPTIC FEEDBACK FOR ITS TOUCHSCREEN.

It works perfectly with our system, but since Logitech shut the update servers down last year, I can’t change its configuration (nor can I change the config of the Harmony Home in general). And yes, they supported Harmony for a *long* time, but they could’ve opened the system up so, for example, others could’ve host servers. They could’ve released the bootloader keys so people could flash alternative firmware onto them instead of turning millions of perfectly functional devices into e-waste.

Because of this, I’ve sworn off future Logitech products. I am sick of living in a disposable economy.

In moving lamps from the #hue to the #tradfri hub, I managed to break our #logitechHarmony universal control 😂

The "watch TV" action would turn on the bias lighting behind the TV, via Hue. But now that lamp no longer exists in Hue, the Harmony app was stuck in a sync loop. Not an elegant failure mode.

Had to delete the Hue integration, but that involved firing up a Win10 VM to run the Logitech desktop app 🙄
