Lodestar (not-a-Hugo for YA) finalists

They Bloom at Night by Trang Thanh Tran

This is a weird one, and I mean stylistically - it's incredibly overwritten, with some very intrusive phrasings that don't sound like people speak or narrate; plus, many of the characters infodump in a "verbatim from wikipedia" way (that actually feels like maybe that's what really happened, as in some cases it reads like the author doesn't understand the sentence they based the infodump on).
Eco/body horror with some twists, and a lot of levening with modern YA self-identity finding.

@terrymatz oh, I just saw this - and this means I do need to add the #Lodestar finalists to my list (I was just powering through all the #Hugos in the last month)

... and "One Man's Treasure" was clever, whilst "The Year without Sunshine" made a point about community at a time when we probably need it.

Only the short stories (and the YA if I want to vote on the #Lodestar ) to go

#AmReading through the #Hugo and #Lodestar finalists and I just finished this absolute gem of a #fantasy Unraveller by Frances Hardinge in which two friends learn about healing, redemption, and more while saving the world.
This book helped me keep my mind off of a medical procedure I had last week and I'm very grateful. Highly recommend this book.
