Fifty 86 class electric #locos were built between 1983 and 1985 to haul freight and long distance passenger trains west from Sydney to Lithgow over the Blue Mountains, north from Sydney to Broadmeadow on the then newly extended electrification of that line, and eventually also to Port Kembla. Whilst technically successful, most of these beasts had short lives.

Any train experts who can shed some more light on this graffiti depiction of a loco, almost certainly seen on the line below the bridge on which this is inscribed in slate at Porth Penrhyn, then exporting from the world's largest slate quarry at Bethesda, north Wales.
Any info will be included in the Historical Environment Record, so more than idle curiosity!

Back in the workshop today to finish my first #LoCoS keyboard prototype! I still have the software part to finish as well but it is really exciting to explore new ways of thinking about writing in the digital age.
Took me some time to do it because my assistant was really picky and wanted to validate all my design choices.

I was in a fablab for work today so I took the opportunity to cut some LoCoS lettering guide prototypes. It needs a little clean up but it works I think.

We have also talked about digitalization, as I understand now how he has constructed all LoCoS shapes and how I should improve mine. He still has a sharp mind and a good eye.
He grew up in a kimono shop owned by his family and was surrounded by Japanese family Crest design. He still owns catalogs, this one has a hundred years old I think.↓ 4/5

He invited me to his apartment full of documentation about language systems, pictogram design, and his research on LoCoS when he was working on one of the first courses in the world on pictogram design at Zokei University around 1966. I had to buy a portable scanner to scan his postcard sized archives full of drawings for my own research and only had the time to scan a drop in the ocean.

I had the chance to exchange with him on multiple occasions during this month, listen to his life, and explore his archives together. He was really kind and humble about his career and was always eager to make me discover new things as he did during all his personal life and with his students, even with his current health issues.
