#LockPickingLawyer presented a new #EDC lock tool yesterday, and I've never had a greater urge to pick up #lockpicking than right now.
Maybe time for a new skill?

@thaodan Another point. If there are devices whos security is vulnerable to people playing with radio, those devices do not have nearly enough security to call them secure to begin with. And to test their insecurity requires trying to break into them #LockPickingLawyer style.

I needed to use this old ThinkPad dock, but it was locked, this hasn't been used for maybe 15 years. Hell knows where the key is.
But… I watch #LockpickingLawyer… he makes it seem pretty trivial. How hard can it be?
Alas, I don't have fancy tools.
But… Kat has a spare hairpin. This plus a small screwdriver as a lever and… hey presto!
It took a bit to get it right, reckon I could do it faster next time.
Just "raking", but it was quite satisfying. Pretty fucking chuffed TBH.

I find myself watching the video by the #LockpickingLawyer on his EDC, or really just his pocket organizer, over and over. He's put an INCREDIBLE amount of capability into a small space, and he says he uses some of the lock manipulation stuff almost daily. I carried picks for five years and used them maybe half a dozen times. What are non-locksmiths DOING that they find all these opportunities for impromptu practice or even utility?

sadly it's a tiny bit more complicated to use - so you can't just give a key to someone who doesn't know about these things and expect them to unlock them without problems

Didn't know that the #lockpickinglawyer gave a keynote at a computer security conference 2 years ago.
Definitely worth watching if you're into lock picking or even like his videos! I also liked the differences and similarities he was telling between computer security and lock security.

The one thing the #LockPickingLawyer has taught me is that if I were in a covert situation where I had to single-pin pick a lock, the lock picking isn't what would get me busted. It's the fact that they'd hear me narrating my go... "Nothing on 1.. 2.... 3 is binding... Good click on 3.. 4...." 🤣
