This is an excellent explanation of locational marginal pricing - a concept in the energy world that regularly comes up in debate. The UK seems to be making progress towards this market design.
(NB: not all of us will have positive connotations with Uber and it's driver allocation algorithm - a key difference here would be that it's not a single company hoarding power, but a neutral and truly independent market maestro).
