I was staring at my walls this weekend and thought... I have ethernet in place of my phone cable in the house - can I use them for something? Most newer homes have their wires in a star hub pattern but when I popped off a plate, I noticed it was 2 sets throughout the house until it got to the end of the run in the master bedroom. This told me that it was probably a wire run in serial so.. what do with it? Setup Localtalk obviously! #appleii #mac #apple #localtalk

@arroz 1. Open up chooser. 2. “Command” double click on the share name. A dialog will come up. 3. Type your message, send and it will appear as a dialog on the screen of machine with the share.

It may be “option” instead of “command”.

okay I'm not sure how to get the attention of any #Seattle local people involved with the #LocalTalk #RetroComputing network BUT

a localtalk-talking laserjet just showed up on Free Stuff on Seattle craigslist and I thought maybe someone might be interested:

The way it works is this:

1. A print is initiated from a device to the CUPS-PDF driver on my #netatalk Raspberry Pi.
2. The resulting PDF is placed in the AFP share of netatalk/afpd.
3. An emulated PPC Mac 9.2.2 running the #AppleScript below is watching for new files in that folder and will print them using Acrobat Reader to the #ImageWriterII via #LocalTalk using the MacPalette II driver.

It works, but crashes with dialog that I can't auto-dismiss.

With netatalk, a TashTalk hat, TashRouter, and CUPS on the Raspberry Pi, we can do clever things like share a #ImageWriter II printer over #LocalTalk with an iPhone using AirPrint!

This screenshot was printed from my phone to the ImageWriter II.

Interestingly, this was just fixed in the latest netatalk 2.3.2!
