  2. Decided to spend the latter half of this rainy day baking #acorn #bread. I got to use some of the flour I had hand ground from wheat I grew last year and flour from acorns I harvested from the oaks in my yard. It is quite delicious, nutty, slight coconut flavor from coconut oil and mildly sweet from honey. It is also satisfying to grow and prepare some of your food.

  4. Made my friend a blueberry-peach #pie for her birthday! Combined a couple of recipes to suit. I hadn’t made a lattice in years, so I chose that for fun :) She brought me the berries from a farm up the Columbia Gorge, and I got peaches from around there too :)

  7. We grow nearly all the vegetables we eat in a year, but that means eating a lot of blanched/frozen veg for 5 months. This year I experimented w/ some Italian chicories, incl 'Rossa di Treviso'. I sowed in summer, harvested roots in fall, then stored roots in the fridge. In mid-Dec, I "planted" some roots in a pot in the basement & covered them--no light. After a few weeks, we have fresh veg again! Next year, I'll sow earlier in the season so roots are larger. #gardening #vegetable #LocallyGrown
