🔴 Labour claimed they were on course for a Commons majority after making major gains in local council elections across England.

The party secured the totemic Red Wall council of Stoke-on-Trent, as well as winning Plymouth and Medway.

My god am I grateful we have preferential voting in Australia, first past the post is infuriating.

And the turnout levels… makes me appreciate having compulsory voting.

I crashed today. Barely enough energy to get out of bed so polling station is out. Planned to go but #MECFS had other plans. Didn't think needed a postal vote as normally ok to get there myself.

Just been to vote. No sign of anyone asking for id until I got to checking of the register phase. The tellers reckoned they were seeing about 30% turnout - so no surge of voters trying to get the Tories out I'm afraid.

I got a small buzz from using a foreign passport as my id though.
