Today I learned that #ArchLinux-supplied #LMMS builds are lacking #ZynAddSubFX instrument plug-in. That completely breaks 100% of my old projects, which use Zyn for... everything.
I asked the LMMS people and they told me to download an AppImage instead of using the repository-supplied builds.
Software packaging, am I right? -

This is my first attempt to compose with LMMS. I must say, I really love the expressivity of the synthesizers. I used only the triple oscillator and some effects on it. The track is mono.

Hello everyone. Just recently made my first Mastodon account so I figured I make an introduction post. I’m 30 years old, aroace, and go by he/him. I mostly play video games, listening to music, or watch videos on YT in my free time; but every once in the blue moon, I like playing around with an open source DAW called Linux Multimedia Studios (LMMS).
My fursona is an eel-anglerfish hybrid; however between the two, you can say it’s basically an eel. Unfortunately despite the fact I’ve been a furry since 2011, I don’t have any art of him to share besides my current pfp I’ve made.
I always liked the idea of Mastodon and the fediverse in general. It reminds me a bit of how there were a bunch of separate forums back in the 2000s that you can just take part of. It kinda gives me a similar vibe and it’s one of the reasons why I decided to hop on here, although not sure how active I’ll be posting-wise.

Some digital pianos/keyboards have a “split” feature, which lets you put an instrument on the left hand and a different instrument on the right hand.
For pianos that don’t support this but support MIDI it seems to me that it should be entirely possible to emulate this behaviour in a synthesiser, but searching online I couldn’t really find anything about this. All I found was pianos that supported splitting the keyboard into two separate MIDI channels, but that won’t work.
Is there any way of doing this, preferably on like LMMS or something? Or any software that can get a MIDI channel and split it into two channels depending on the key that is pressed on the piano?

I've finally nailed down the #music studio setup, and can say for music I'm 95% migrated to #Linux (with some #Windows dependence still due to drivers required for programming one of my #synths).
Using a #system76 tower with #Arch, running #FLStudio with #WineASIO (finally works! no latency from synths!), #lmms, and #Ardour.
Next project is migrating #Tidalcycles from #VSCodium to #Vim (maybe?)

Is it just me or #QTractor is among the best DAWs? Everyone's using #LMMS for midi under #Linux, but I feel that QTractor is more flexible. It supports almost all kinds of plugin formats for one.
To get it running, you need to run the jack server (qjackctl) & Qsynth softsynth prior. Then create a new midi track, select an instrument, and create a new clip on it. Draw some (random?) midi notes in it. Hit play.

Battle of the open source synths on Linux: #Vitalium, #SurgeXT, #Synthv1, #Dexed, #ZynAddSubFX. There's also #Helm, but it's just a precursor of Vitalium (by the same developer). There are a couple more, but these are the most common or capable ones.
I wish there was some more development of Vitalium. The creator of #Vital dropped the v1 as GPL, and then he closed sourced it. The community didn't really do much with it.

@eugenialoli I've tried to switch to anything from #flstudio. Somehow 10 years experience of using flstudio are making me unable to switch - everything seems wrong and clumsy. So I just stopped making #music after final switch to #linux, lol. And I can't even describe what part of ux/ui of flstudio is missing in #lmms, but it probably behavior of piano roll and patterns.

I think I got an A-B problem on my hands 😂
I plan to make music for my next YouTube stuff, so I was looking for electronic guitar samples for @LMMS , and a forum suggested to get Unreal Instruments Metal GTX, and to find something that can load an #SFZ instrument. I found that Arch #Linux has #Carla in the repos. So now I have Carla in #LMMS and the instrument opened in Carla but have no sound...
Do I troubleshoot the sound, or look for a different instrument?

Can you recommend good piano .sf2 that sounds like dancepiano2k7? I use LMMS and I don't use FL Studio(because it is non-free), but LMMS doesn't have piano synths and all .sf2 pianos that I have found don't sound like real piano and my(acoustic) piano doesn't sound very good(I think I need to tune it).#piano #music #lmms #house #progressive #progressivehouse #dj #edm #daw #sf2
