Took a long (for me) #Wander yesterday, along the #TaffEly #RidgewayWalk. Started off at #MynyddYGaer and followed the trail past the extensive #WindFarms, the ruins of the 12th Century #StPeters #Church and the locally famous #CariadRocks, before dropping down into #Llantrisant #Forest and finishing up in #Llanharan. Some great views, despite the mostly grey skies.

Purple is such a great colour, don't you agree?

Out for a walk yesterday, I spotted this piece of #graffiti under a bridge over the Afon Clun.
I think it works well in black and white, thanks to the texture of the stonework.

Finally ... I just can't do it. I can't go out and shoot just with primes. All too often, there's a shot that I want, and it simply isn't possible to get it by moving my feet alone.
The #Fujifilm 70-300mm zoom is now easy to get on the second-hand market (at last!), so I've picked one up to stick in my camera bag whenever I'm out with the prime lenses.

This test shot is taken with one of the more divisive #Fujifilm prime lenses - the 23mm f/1.4 (the original one, not the new version that came out in 2022).
It's the equivalent of a 35mm lens on a full-frame camera.
Some people find it a very awkward field of view. And it's certainly far from being a flawless lens, as this shot clearly shows.
It's still got lovely character, though perhaps a little more subtle than the legendary 35mm f/1.4!

Here's another test shot taken with the legendary #Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 prime lens.
This was taken at f/2, because even on a winter's day, it was just too bright to shoot at f/1.4!
I've picked this one to show that there's no problem with detail at all. You can put this lens on the #XH2 and it works perfectly fine with that monster 40 megapixel sensor.
Also, look at the colours. The new WB mode on the X-H2 is a huge upgrade!

This next test shot is taken with the legendary #Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4.
There are plenty of technical faults with the way this image has rendered.
I don't care.
The image pops. The separation with the background really has something about it.
Why did I wait so long to get this lens?!? (Because I love the convenience of my zoom lenses, that's why ...)

This first shot is from the 90mm prime, wide open at f/2.
I love how the stone masonry here has rendered.
There's plenty of detail without the final result looking overly digital (for lack of a better description).

Does anyone know where abouts I can see the Mari Lwyd in south Wales this Christmas? My partner's family recons there should be one about in the pubs in Llantrisant but if I go all the way there I want to make sure there really is one. #Wales #Llantrisant #Christmas #MariLwyd

My 4 x great grandfather, Richard Morgan, was baptised on 2 December 1792 in Llantrisant, Glamorgan, the ninth of twelve children born to James Morgan and Hannah David. Sadly, Hannah died when Richard was ten. Richard’s family were associated with inns and horses, and he spent a long working life as an ostler.

Got out for a pre rain walk this morning near #Llantrisant. Soggy feet by the time I got home, but an excellent #autumn day.
